Indian Fighter Planes Violate Pakistani Airspace(on Two Fronts)

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has violated Pakistani airspace and were intercepted by the Pakistan Air Force. The incidence took place on the 13th of December, at midnight. The military establishment in Pakistan is considering this to be a serious violation and PAF air bases are on full alert.

This represents a series of provocations that could easily go out of hand and lead to war, which could as easily go nuclear. This therefore represents a very dangerous situation for not only India and Pakistan, but for the international community.

2 Indian Su-30 MkI ingressed in the Lahore sector, Pakistan's second most important city after Karachi. 3 Indian Mirage 2000H ingressed in the Kashmir sector. The Su-30 Mki "FLANKER" were intercepted by 3 F-16s and 3 F-7 combat aircraft from the Pakistan Air Force, while the Mirage 2000Hs were intercepted by 2 F-16s and 2 Mirage IIIs. The intercepts were made within 4 miles of entering Pakistani territory, and the intruders were escorted out of Pakistani airspace. According to the PAF, the Indian aircraft were fully armed.

The Indians are in violation of agreements to not send combat aircraft within 10 km of their own boundaries. The simultaneous nature of the intrusion, in the middle of the night, being fully armed clearly indicates it was no mistake, and is replicative of Israeli tactics with Syria.

(snip)

The response from the Government of Pakistan has been to contradict the Pakistan Air Force and state that this was, in essence a mistake from the Indian side. This illustrates the nature of the government which has thus far been more anti-Pakistan Military and pro-Western than any government in the past.

The Information Minister, Sherry Rehman, claimed that it was a mistake from the Indian side, which directly contradicts the PAF, and one may add, logic. In a joint press conference with the British PM, Zardari echoed this response and said Indian violation was a technical fault of IAF. While PAF denies that it was fault.

1. Like everything happening in this region,
many sources confirm this story, and many offer an alternative. The PAF said it happened, the Pakistan FM said it happened. Now, the Pakistan PM and India are saying it was a simple accident. Some are denying anything happened at all.

2. It looks like India conducted a test
It is happens from time to time. One country makes an overt military move against an adversary to gage the response.

3. The response from Pakistan seems to be inconsistent.
The Pakistani Air Force and the FM were serious and vowed they were prepared to deal with any threat. The Pakistani President and PM, however, want to avoid any conflict at all costs.

5. This is un-nerving. Pakistan and India are playing chess, and their Queen's are atomic bombs
Here we are with a lame duck drunkard on the way out and new President Obama on the way in. For the first few months we are going to be busy with the transition (and cleaning up Bush's mess). It sure looks to me like India and Pakistan see this as an opportunity to take it up a notch.

8. They only have a limited number of fission devices
Probably no more than the equivalent of a couple hundred Hiroshima yield bombs between them.

Probably no more than a few tens of millions of casualties in total.

War between them would not have as serious effect as, for example, the Thirty Years War, which reduced the population of Germany by a third.

4. This report claims India, with Israeli Commado help is looking to strike 4
targets in Pakistan, and that Condi has been informed:

Agencies add: The Indian government has sought Israel's help to launch commando attacks inside Pakistan on alleged militant camps especially Al Qaeda centres, according to a private television channel on Saturday. The Mossad, the Israeli foreign intelligence agency, has the experience to successfully retaliate terror attacks, the channel reported, quoting the Voice of Germany with reference to an Israeli weekly.

According to the report, India wants to launch these attacks in such a manner so that they are successful while avoiding any blame for them.

The weekly says India can hit four targets which include Azad Kashmir, Punjab and Karachi. In certain areas of Azad Kashmir allegedly there are dozens of caamps to train religious zealots and militants.

The weekly revealed that India has informed US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice about the possible attacks, though she did not support any type of conflict between the two countries.

6. India doesn't have a clue what she is getting invovled with
In this instance your enemy's enemy is not your friend. They will learn the hard way.

7. Reading of three nuclear powers playing chicken is unsettling.
My fear is that the factions in the Pakistani military will say f-off to Zardari and react on their own.

The governments of Pakistan and India say they don't want war, but they are having a hard time controlling their people.
