U.S. balks at decriminalizing homosexuality

AP -updated 1 hour, 24 minutes ago

UNITED NATIONS - Alone among major Western nations, the United States has refused to sign a declaration presented Thursday at the United Nations calling for worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality.

In all, 66 of the U.N.'s 192 member countries signed the nonbinding declaration — which backers called a historic step to push the General Assembly to deal more forthrightly with any-gay discrimination. More than 70 U.N. members outlaw homosexuality, and in several of them homosexual acts can be punished by execution.

Co-sponsored by France and the Netherlands, the declaration was signed by all 27 European Union members, as well as Japan, Australia, Mexico and three dozen other countries. There was broad opposition from Muslim nations, and the United States refused to sign, indicating that some parts of the declaration raised legal questions that needed further review.

"It's disappointing," said Rama Yade, France's human rights minister, of the U.S. position — which she described as in contradiction with America's long tradition as a defender of human rights.

3. This might seem like a silly question, but.....
Why didn't they save this resolution for after January 20, when Squirrel Face Bolton (or whatever idiot Chimpy has in there now) wouldn't be able to vote against it?

5. Bolton quit a while back
The current U.S. ambassador is Zalmay Khalilzad, who has previously served as U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan and to Iraq.

4. and for the final symbolic nail in the coffin of gay equality!!!....
throw a bigot onstage at the inauguration to legitimize the outrageous stance that the U.S. is taking according to this article.
We are a homophobic, bigotted, backwards nation. What a fucking shame.

6. oh yes, and lets continue BS associations
"The statement suggested that protecting sexual orientation could lead to "the social normalization and possibly the legalization of deplorable acts" such as pedophilia and incest."

They always have to throw in the obligatory association of being homosexual and pedophilia :grr: and now they seem to be throwing in incest as well, douche bags
