Rep. Diane Degette for Sen. Salazar's seat!- she's on Rachel right now |
|
God, she would be 10 times better than Salazar. Right now she's talking about the new Bush rules on pharmacy for religious beliefs

2. She would be a great choice. But reading the Denver Papers |
|
she may be too liberal to win a statewide Election there

5. I heard that Ritter is not close to Salazar |
|
and his brother and is more liberal than those two.
I also think that the organization that Obama built in Colorado could get her elected because of the change she could bring.
She's smarter than her counterpart Rep. Salazar and fares well with hispanics and liberal middle class. I guess Ritter is gonna wait until Salazar is approved before he puts a names out there.
I don't want Salazar's brother to get the spot and would rather have Degette there, she could win but it would be a fight, she has great approval ratings.

7. I met her twice, once in Wash Park and once in Boulder |
|
Right before she got elected in 1997.
She impressed me back then with her intellect and knowledge of issues. When I saw her on Rachel, she aged, and aged well, I didn't realize how long ago it was when I saw her up close again. She needs more TV time, she does great and is a national leader that needs to be heard. She is the chief deputy whip right now and she doesn't get enough air time as compared to the other normal democrats that get air time.
11 years since I last met her, ......... damn time flies.

4. I adore her.... She rips through reelection in her district.. |
|
I'm not so sure she'd do quite so well statewide, but some bit of incumbency would certainly help.

6. She's not on my "A" list. Her votes haven't been that great, she isn't for single payer health care |
|
and the topper was when I went to one of her townhall meetings and tried to speak about poverty, and she was very rude and ripped into me.
Many people came up to me and expressed dismay about her behavior.
No, she's no friend of mine. Or of poor or sick people in general.

8. Is Rep. Salazar better? |
|
I haven't met him and know nothing about him except he's a blue dog and it looks like he might get the nom.

11. A SENATOR represents me, and therefore I have the RIGHT to comment. |
|
This IS about democracy, you know, and even though I'm homeless I still deserve to speak.

Forgot about who I was talking to, sorry.
Sorry about your circumstance.
Anyway, you still gave me no feedback on the other choices that Ritter might nominate.

14. I gave you very good information about the sort of representative she is. |
|
I told you that she doesn't have any concern for single-payer health care. I would think that would be very important information for you.
I told you that she can be very rude to those she considers beneath her and not worth her time. I would think that would be important information for you.
I shouldn't have to continually explain and defend myself on DU, but since you decided that you needed to needle me, I will EXPLAIN to you that that encounter was YEARS ago, when she WAS my representative.
Rather than be so confrontive, you might want to consider that when you ask for peoples' thoughts, you need to accept their thoughts, rather than use them as a reason to be unpleasant in your reply.
And I no longer care to continue this.

13. She's always been responsive when I've heard her.... |
|
Sorry to hear of your experiences...She is far more progressive than Salazar, that's for sure... Hickenlooper has been mentioned, but I don't think he wants it... He has done well, I think as Denver mayor, which is a very different job and set of challenges. I am not sure that skill set automatically transfers to statewide political office. Frankly, I think they might be wasted.
DeGette has generally been very good on women's issues, those civil rights most under attack by the Bushies*. I don't know how general the questions were around poverty, but it is admittedly a very overwhelming issue, especially when she was working in a Bush* administration. Could it just be her frustration and helplessness coming through? I have seen a very compassionate side to her in my dealings.

15. You can think what you want... I told you what response I got from her, and that others that night |
|
were shocked at her snippiness toward me.
I guess I should expect that my poverty would be dismissed.
I don't accept that.
Gays no longer accept being dismissed, so why should I????????????
Compassionate was the LAST thing she was.

17. Thank you. There are a few of you who are willing to hear. |
|
But the majority of "progressives" don't give a rip about poverty, because it's just not SEXY.
So, here we are, left out in the cold.
Literally.
Does it matter?
