Rick Warren believes that the Flinstones represents reality and man once ruled over dinosaurs.
From the Saddleback Church website:

What about dinosaurs?
Question: How do they fit in with the idea that God created the world rather than the world evolving on it’s own? Why doesn’t the Bible talk about dinosaurs?

Answer: The Bible tells in Genesis 1 that God made the world in seven days, and that he made all of the animals on the fifth day and the sixth day. All of the animals were created at the same time, so they all walked the earth at the same time. I know that the pictures we all grew up with in the movies were that dinosaurs roamed a lifeless, volcanic planet. Remember these are just pictures drawn by someone today! The Bible's picture is that dinosaurs and man lived together on the earth, an earth that was filled with vegetation and beauty.

What happened to the dinosaurs? The scientific record lets us know that they obviously became extinct through some kind of cataclysmic event on the earth. Many scientists theorize that this may have been an asteroid striking the earth, while many Christians wonder if this event could have been the worldwide flood in Noah's day. No one can know for certain what this event was.

Although it cannot be stated with certainty, it appears that dinosaurs may have actually been mentioned in the Bible. The Bible uses names like "behemoth" and "tannin." Behemoth means kingly, gigantic beasts. Tannin is a term that includes dragon-like animals and the great sea creatures such as whales, giant squid, and marine reptiles like the plesiosaurs that may have become extinct. The Bible's best description of a dinosaur-like animal is in Job chapter 40. We don't know for certain if these are actually dinosaurs or are some other large creatures that became extinct.

This should not sound so strange. After all, God tells us that he created all the land animals on the sixth day of creation, the same day that he created mankind. Man and dinosaurs lived at the same time. There was never a time when dinosaurs ruled the earth. From the very beginning of creation, God gave man dominion over all that was made, even over the dinosaurs.

So in addition to being a hateful bigot, Rick Warren also believes that the Flintstones was a documentary. And people actually think this guy has an ounce of credibility? I don't care how many books this guy has sold, there is nothing mainstream about him. We don't need to come together with a guy who rejects basic scientific facts and attacks minority groups as a way to increase his book sales.

I am sick of hearing about how reaching out to this guy is going to unify us, it is already clear that this choice has caused enormous divisions and people are seriously hurt by it. It is time for Obama to formally apologize for his severe lack of judgment in making this choice, bigots do not help bring us together they only tear us apart.

1. I'm gay...
and I find this MORE disturbing and MORE of a reason for him not to be at the inauguration than his support for Prop 8.

2. I wouldn't go as far as to say this is as bad as his support of Prop 8...
It most definitely does help to illustrate just how deep this guy's ignorance runs however.

4. Great post! I have no intention of "unifying" with theocrats, bigots, & misogynists.
They need to slapped down, marginalized, and utterly rejected. They are toxic. They are a danger to freedom, human rights, civil society, and democracy.

The only two sides here are the correct side of upholding enlightened values, and the wrong side which is regressive, oppressive, and authoritarian.

24. I am only hoping at this point that this provides political cover to repeal Don't Ask
Don't Tell.

Although I kind of doubt Obama is actually going to do that. I am not sure what to believe any more.

chips he won from the Warrenites when he appoints a gay to his administration. He's already picked Nancy Sutley for his administration, and that pick will have more real worked impact than the symbolic pick of Warren. Picking William White as Sec of the Navy would be another real world impact pick.

I'm less interested in the bob and weaves as I am with where the runner is heading.

I am not at all happy with the Warren pick, but I knew Obama didn't agree with me on each and every issue.

6. This choice of Warren has already had real world impact.
If you haven't noticed a lot of people are feeling very hurt and betrayed by this choice, that is real world impact.

13. Personal feelings doesn't feed the hungry, clean up the environment,
prosecute the bush junta.

Obama did some things during his campaign that set my hair on fire, but within a few weeks, his move started making sense. Is this Warren pick of the same sort, I don't know, but I will reserve judgment until I see what he does after Jan 20.

Also understand that people projected on him what they thought or wished he would be. He is who he is: a pragmatic moderately conservative Democrat.

Never forget that politics is the art of compromise. Don't micromanage every move he makes, because he might have to do things to get something else done.
He's going to need as many people as possible behind him because he is going to have to do some rather painful things to get our economy off the ropes. I know I will have to wait for things on my agenda to be addressed.

You voted for a good man, an imperfect man, a man with strong beliefs. Have faith in your own judgement.

25. I'm thinking the same thing - P.E. Obama does NOTHING without a reason.
But I'm wracking (wrecking) my brain trying to figure out how this could be spun into any kind of positive.

will sit on your hands or support me when I appoint people not to the religious reich liking.

Politics is the art of compromise. bush wanted to be "the dictator" because dictators don't compromise.

16. "He has to run to the center right to get elected"
"Wait until after he's in office then he'll move left."

"After the 2010 midterms, he can address progressive issues."
"After he's reelected he'll be able to do something."
"After the 2012 midterms..."
"He can't do anything now because we don't want to lose the White House in 2016."

And so it will go on and on and on.

20.  Do you feel you used good judgement when you voted for him?
Same sex marriage is a matter for the states. Not much he can do for that issue because the state issues the marriage license, and set the rules. Short of a Constitutional amendment, there is not much a president can do about state marriage laws.

I don't like Warren and wish he hadn't, but it is his day not mine.

22. I voted for the lesser of two evils.
Loving v Virginia set the precedent that marriage laws are not the sole province of the states and a president may certainly express the opinion that Gays should have the same rights as all other citizens.

Choosing Warren is not just a GLBT issue. The jerk is also a sexist and claims that Jews are all going to hell, and he's called for the assassination of Ahmadinejad.

Yes it is Obama's day and one has to wonder why he chose to use it to showcase a sexist, anti-semetic, homophobe. Apparently he decided his inauguration would be a good day to send a big FU out to a lot of his supporters and to a world that thought his election marked a change in U.S. policy.

27. Warren will be a big problem for him as people get to know him. We've
had to suffer under the yoke of the religionist for a long time. I hope we can break free some day.

Yes, he can use his bully pulpit to push for equal rights, but still the states will resist federal interference. We got to change hearts too. It can't all be done by laws.

I am waiting for the court to make the final decision. It took the courts to rule on civil rights, maybe they will do the right thing for the GLBT community too.

26. Wasn't the Allosaurus vegetarian?
Surely we have better options. At least a Brontosaurus would squash more of the sons-of-bitches. Of course the raptors would be working the phones and scamming little old ladies in no time at all.

BTW, I never considered the fact that the dino's went extinct because they were too big for the ark. What a revelation.

30. Stupid Noah!
God must have told him to make the Arc bigger, but Noah was probably all like "Eh, I can cut corners and save money, get a bigger return on my investment, hire some extra workers maybe." "The boat doesn't need to be that big, it'll fit all of 'em, plus leave me enough left over to build a smaller boat." And all sorts of shit like that. But when the dinosaurs and the unicorns and the chupacabra couldn't fit, God must have been pissed until Noah convinced him the dinosaurs weren't included in his limited liability plan.

Noah, the first venture capitalist. Bastard.

They package and market it for the lambs in their flocks. The more leaders like Warren engage little imaginations, the more they get them to contribute for heaven's "harvest.' :puke:
