I am very sorry to belabor this point ad nauseum, but there is much more at stake here than our tolerating a bigot's 2-minute prayer during the inauguration.
The historic significance of Obama's election serves to celebrate a new, enlightened era of our country, where our we are finally able to appreciate the true value of our fellow human beings, where they will "not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Obama's election as our new President is ultimate proof of this enlightenment.
Advocating the inclusion of a preacher who teaches hate and intolerance and even refuses to allow gays membership in his church is the ultimate antithesis of everything the new enlightened era of Obama's presidency stands for. Obama's inauguration should be a celebration of tolerance and acceptance and celebrate the best virtues in man's character.... not bigotry and hatred.
Well, I, too, have a dream where I will not be judged by my sexuality but my content of character.
Don't forget there once was a time when people used the Bible to even justify slavery:
Religious pro-slavery activists fired impressive scriptural guns by quoting passages such as: “Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh” (1 Peter 2:18); and “Servants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of your heart, as to Christ” (Ephesians 6:5).
And now we have another preacher who is using the bible to justify hatred, only today it is hatred of gays and he is being allowed to lead our great nation in prayer. This is nothing but pure hypocrisy and is repugnant.
