How sad - a market truck swerved off the road in Portland |

Jamaica and plunged 30 feet into a ravine killing fourteen and injuring four - three seriously. The driver escaped and fled. Eight women, five men and one child on their way to the Christmas weekend market special (there is nothing like the excitement in our lively markets on Christmas weekends). Since 1991, no accident has taken more than six lives and this is the largest number of persons to die in a road accident since the 1970s.
Our phone has been ringing off the hook and people are in tears even though they don't know these poor people. We just saw this horrific accident on local news. What a weekend to lose so many people. I grieve for their families.
I'll post a link when the Sunday papers go online later tonight.
In case DUers don't know it, there are lots of descendants of American Quakers in Portland. They even started schools in that parish.

I'll say that the driver better write his will. From he fled the scene, he knows that his days are numbered.
