FDA Stuns Scientists, Declares Mercury in Fish to be Safe for Infants, Children, Expectant Mothers!
In a truly astonishing betrayal of public safety (even for the FDA), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration today revoked its warning about mercury in fish, saying that eating mercury-contaminated fish no longer poses any health threat to children, pregnant women, nursing mothers and infants.

Last week, the FDA declared trace levels of melamine to be safe in infant formula. A few weeks earlier, it said the plastics chemical Bisphenol-A was safe for infants to drink. Now it says children can eat mercury, too. Is there any toxic substance in the food that the FDA thinks might be dangerous? (Aspartame, MSG, sodium nitrite and now mercury...)

Apparently Pivens was also taking Chinese Herbal remedies.

Just one Chinese "Herb Ball" can have as much mercury in it as a quarter ton of sushi tuna.

of any ethics, decency, or character in these people. They need to be isolated from the rest of the planet. Given their own island. Their own mercury infested island. Everywhere they go they can see shimmering, slippery, slimy silver and know that they're not going to suffer any long-term damage from it.

26. I think that in this case, it is the "Clean Coal" lobbyists.
100% of the rivers and lakes in Minnesota (The Land of 10,000 Lakes) were posted with warning against consumption of fish due to mercury contamination (from coal power plants).

Very bad publicity for King Coal.

20. And they wonder why autism has risen so much!
Sick - they are sick!

Now they are saying that there is no link but back in 2005 Robert Kennedy Jr wrote this:

http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2005/07/01/autism_mercury_and_politics/

ROBERT KENNEDY JR.
Autism, mercury, and politics

By Robert Kennedy Jr. | July 1, 2005

MOUNTING EVIDENCE suggests that Thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative in children's vaccines, may be responsible for the exponential growth of autism, attention deficit disorder, speech delays, and other childhood neurological disorders now epidemic in the United States.

Prior to 1989, American infants generally received three vaccinations (polio, measles-mumps-rubella, and diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis). In the early 1990s, public health officials dramatically increased the number of Thimerosal-containing vaccinations without considering the cumulative impact of the mercury load on developing brains.

In a 1991 memo, Dr. Maurice Hilleman, one of the fathers of Merck's vaccination programs, warned his bosses that 6-month-old children administered the shots on schedule would suffer mercury exposures 87 times the government safety standards. He recommended that Thimerosal be discontinued and complained that the US Food and Drug Administration, which has a notoriously close relationship with the pharmaceutical industry, could not be counted on to take appropriate action as its European counterparts had. Merck ignored Hilleman's warning, and for eight years government officials added seven more shots for children containing Thimerosal.

34. I'd say thimerosal is ONE of the causes of the autism outbreak.
Just remember, what is thimerosal? A mercury compound.

Keep in mind that we don't get mercury just from vaccine preservatives.

Fish anyone? (as the OP and many others have mentioned...)

Ever use mercury thermometers?

Have fluorescent lights in your house? Ever break one?

The water you drink has mercury in it.

Coal has mercury in it, and when power plants burn it, it goes straight out the smokestack. That's why there's mercury in the water, and mercury in seafood. Hell, every time you draw breath, you inhale a little bit of mercury.

I'm operating under the hypothesis that at least some cases of autism are essentially caused by mercury poisoning, and thimerosal is only one source of mercury.

I'm thinking of adding alpha lipoic acid to my vitamin regimen - on top of being a great antioxidant, it's also a low-level chelator. Something to keep the level of heavy metals in my system down to a tolerable level.

21. Fifteen or twenty years ago I wrote to the FDA to receive their published
Edited on Sun Dec-21-08 01:35 PM by higher class
information on MSG. I assumed I would receive a neutral assessment or at least straight information on the effects and what to do.

It was trash. I got the impression that what they had printed was what the manufacturers wanted to be said.

Little did I know then that the Glutamate Assn was the largest lobbyist at that time in terms of dollar funding.

Little did I know then that lobbyists write documentation and marketing stuff for the Departments of our Government that we rely on.

I never trusted one word the FDA said after my event.

I never trusted the way they spent our money.

What they have just done iS MURDER and THEFT. They have stolen trust. They have stolen a person's right to a fit life. They have stolen and will continue to steal our money to pay the medical bills from those who will suffer and who may have to be housed somewhere.

I read it on DU - someone's statement or quote that theft is at the base of every crime. It's very true.

The FDA executives and the administration who took money to say this (and they don't seem to do anything without money changing hands) are thieves.

We have no one representing us. The honorable people don't have authority.

33. For the scientifically ignorant here, only some fish has mercury in it.
Avoid things like king mackerel, shark and SOME tunas and you will be all right.

Basically anything that is a top predator may have mercury in it but other fish are perfectly safe: tilapia, catfish, flounder.

35. Not true for all waters- where I live no fish at all can be eaten due to the high mercury
content in the water. Even those washed up have to be buried. There are old abandoned mercury mines upstream that simply overflow into our watershed. Our watershed is not the only place like this on the earth, so you have to know your seafood sources.

39. Makes perfect, if malicious, sense.
The stupider you can make people en-masse, the more parasitism you can practice.

I suppose this kind of "ruling" prevents mercury in fish ever being 'officially considered' in a diagnosis: Can't be the fish in your diet, the FDA has said so, so it must be something else. For example, "Have you seen a psychiatrist lately?" i.e. "neuropsychiatric symptoms (emotional lability, memory impairment, insomnia)."

in a small town in south jersey, parents noticed little silver beads in their kids clothing-after picking them up from daycare. someone made a big enough stink about it and the authorities came in. it comes out that the daycare is on top of an old mercury or thermometer plant. this daycare was around for awhile how many toddlers ingested this crap. it is shut down down but it probably won't be cleaned up like our super-fund sites that are still sitting around. couple of generations everyone will forget and something else will be built there and continue to sicken folks. what about the wells in the area? people knew and they allowed the daycare to be housed there. just sickening.
