what is your question about the checks? i don't drive in the san diego area, have only taken public transport there, so i can't tell you specifics about those, but the other checks seem to have different purposes on different days -- at time it's clear they're looking for illegals, at other times it seems they must be looking for drugs or contraband, near hoover dam they sometimes appear to be looking for bombs
sometimes the check points include a dog, i don't know if the dogs are for drugs, agricultural products, or what, perhaps there are different dogs for different days, who knows!
so i'd suggest not smuggling drugs, human beings, bombs, or anything else illegal, and you should be good to go, most of the checks are cursory, but i was pulled aside and searched very intensively during one of the checks and held on some thin excuse while they called around to see if there was any warrant on my name and car (i could hear them giving my info over the radio or cell phone, don't remember which)
if we think our borders are worth protecting then i think the checks are a necessary evil

2. The thing that I'm concerned with is the fact that it is being conducted by Military as |
|
opposed to Law enforcement.

If you aren't breaking the law then you have nothing to worry about, and I too think that our borders need protecting and this is a necessary evil, but worth it!

I know about were here in Washington states some years ago. They stopped people to check for drivers license, proof of insurance, to make sure you were wearing a seatbelt, and to see if you had been drinking. I had no problem with it because they took a lot of drunks off the highways, and that was good. It also made sure that people who were driving not only had a license, but were insured. They stopped doing it because people complained, and now there are "more" accidents involving drunk drivers, and far to many people who have "NO" insurance or a license who are out there driving. There needs to be some way to make sure those who drink don't drive, and those who do drive are licensed and have insurance in case they cause and accident.
