Sorry Caroline, Move Over, Nadler Wants The Seat |
|
I would have been happy to have Caroline Kennedy take Hillary's seat. I wasn't getting involved in the hoopla, I think she would have been a fine choice. However, Nadler Is a FAR superior candidate. If he wants it, it should be his. Period. NY-SEN: Nadler's Interested http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/12/23/163953/41/681/676651

1. Sorry but Caroline Kennedy is better qualified |
|
Caroline Kennedy would be the better Senator. (And I'm not knocking Nadler, he too would be fine.)
Outside of the angry Caroline bashers at some declining website which has now dropped several thousand spots below this one after being ahead of this site from January through October, most people do support Caroline.
She's an accomplished author, well educated, was out supporting Obama with a key endorsement, an executive, has experience working for a Senator, started the profiles in courage awards, served as an executive for a large public school system and raised lots of money, and prior to a small number of people at a certain angry website, nobody had a bad word to say about her.
You can make a case for Nadler, I can make a better case for CK.

2. Uhh, No, She's Not Better Qualified Than Nadler, Not Even Close |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-24-08 10:14 AM by Beetwasher
If you think she's better qualified you're out of your mind or plain ignorant of Nadler and his accomplishments. Nadler's been in Congress for for over 16 years and a legislator for over 30 years. It's not even comparable. Caroline would make a fine Senator, but to say she's more qualified than Nadler is just plain ridiculous.

15. Experience is good but... |
|
Experience is good but vision is better. Nadler has played the game for a long time and might be too focused on the process to inspire real progress. Because of her heritage, Kennedy can promote more sweeping, progressive legislation and get more support for it.

What Nadler's accomplished. Caroline's "heritage" is irrelevant, and quite frankly that's a ridiculous argument.

3. What qualifies Caroline to be a senator? I'm really curious. |
|
Simply being jfk's daughter? I think the whole thing is sickening. Now we know why she threw Hillary under the bus.

4. She didn't throw Hillary under the bus. She endorsed Obama. |
|
But your comment reminds me that so much of the anti-Caroline Kennedy sentiment around here is composed of Hillary Clinton supporters who haven't gotten over the primary loss.

6. hogwash! Endorsing the winner should NOT qualify someone for a Senate seat |
|
And that blanket statement about Hillary supporters (which I was NOT) is the sort of broadbrush attack freepers use. It's disgusting and totally WRONG.
No MORE trust fund babies in the Senate. From EITHER party. It's hypocritical and WRONG for this country.

16. Who said that it should? |
|
But I do think it is telling that so many of Kennedy's attackers, such as the poster I responded to, appear to harbor feelings of betrayal over the Obama endorsement.

Senators don't have to do anything but debate ideas. Kennedy's name guarantees her an audience and serious consideration of her ideas.

So, brass tacks. What are her ideas? What are Nadler's?

He can win his district, obviously. Can he win a statewide election in 2010? And be honest - don't just say yes because you like him.

I think it's certainly possible he could. It depends on a lot of factors, including what Congress accomplishes in the next couple of years.

Elections are won by winning over the majority of the middle. And just because someone is registered with any one party, does not mean they always vote with that party.

I'm not against this guy, mind, as I think he would be an excellent Senator and he definitely has the experience. I just don't want to risk losing this Senate seat in two years time.

He's very serious and very likeable. Caroline is probably more of a risk. Too many unknowns. I think both could win.

But he is, in some important ways, a less attractive candidate for state-wide office. He could not be considered likely to be able to raise the funding needed to run in both 2010 and 2012, for example.

9. Nadler's good but John Hall is more electable. |
|
They're close in ideology; Hall has won upstate twice in a reliably GOP congressional district.
Nadler might be seen as too Manhattan and too "liberal"... i.e. he could more easily be portrayed that way.
Yes.... they are both better qualified and better suited to the position than the modestly accomplished Ms. Kennedy.

I wasn't aware of that. He'd be good too. Honestly, I like Caroline as well, but I'd prefer a more seasoned pick like Nadler or Hall.

to Progressive matters and EXPERIENCE. They both don't stand a snow ball's chance in hell.
BTW... John eked out Sue Kelly and he was lucky enough to win this time around because his contender didn't have any money. It seems the only qualification his opponent was running on was that he is an Iraq war vet. I'm still a little miffed about John being suckered into voting for the bank bail out...(Maurice wasn't). He believed the same liars that led us into the Iraq War.
