they need touch as much as we do-but their not afraid to ask for it. Maybe it's true of most living things, who knows? I once had a wild raccoon who lived in my garage lose her entire first litter of cubs one Spring (I don't know how). As I was sitting on my porch steps waiting for a friend to arrive, the grieving mother raccoon came and sat down next to me, leaned against me, and put one paw on my leg. She sat that way for a long time (and I was a little freaked out by it and didn't move at first). Eventually I started lightly rubbing her behind the ears. She jumped a bit at first and then relaxed against me. She ran off as soon as my friend's car pulled into the driveway, but I'll never forget that evening!
