Alaskans lacking in sense of humor

What can I say? A place that could elect Sarah Palin to anything lacks humor? Apparently they do.

Powers and Snowzilla have come under attack from Alaskan officials and grinches for years. Powers has been repeatedly fined every winter that Snowzilla rises from the dead. Though Snowzilla was not targeted last year, Anchorage officials posted a stop-work order on Powers' door to stop Snowzilla from coming back this year.

Powers also has outstanding fines of over $100,000 for violating land use codes, but that's a trick straight out of the likes of Scrooge or Mr. Potter.

until after the holidays at least. Public outcry was too intense - the city had to back down.

3. It's a GOP state

Powers should have seen this one coming.

Not that I'm ambitious enough to erect two story snowmen even when we have snow, but that's an example of why I decided against several GOP states when I was ready to leave New England.

I think it has everything to do with Powers and his $100,000 worth of fines that he owes the city for the junk in his yard.

If you check the letters at the Anchorage Daily News website, you'll see that they're running 100% in favor of the snowman. People LOVE Snowzilla here.
