23/6 nails it: Rick Warren is the Sarah Palin of the Obama administration
Saddledreck

Warren is sort of the Sarah Palin of the Obama Administration -- a seemingly rushed choice, made on superficial grounds to appeal to an extreme demographic, with no thought to the fairly obvious, larger, and unfortunate implications. The selection is similarly disturbing because it suggests Obama's judgment may not be as keen as we thought. I mean, I'm sure Rick Warren is a nice guy, and that he'll smile and deliver a lot of inclusive-sounding homilies, but Jesus, just invite the guy over to the White House for brunch or something. Have a photo op with him in the Rose Garden. The right-wing-crazy demographic has little to do but watch soap operas and Pat Robertson all day; they'll see the coverage on Fox or CNN.

Personally, I think we're just lucky Obama didn't pick Warren as his running mate. That so easily could have happened. Think about it: Obama says he chose Warren as his convocation speaker because they are friends, and it helps him to engage Warren in discussions on the issues -- the same reasons he gave for choosing Joe Biden. Only now, in hindsight, do we see what a bullet we dodged when Biden got the job.

You know you've fallen down the rabbit hole when the satire sites make more sense than the allegedly "sensible" commentators.

4. no vetting and poor decisions
by advisors sitting in hunched circles , lattes and mahogany desks...advisors who have yale law degrees, harvard business degrees, people who have never worked for 8 dollars an hr and have priveledged lives and have lived in a bubble all of their lives. people who dont go into the trenches to take the pulse of the american public, but count on pollsters and their own bubble research to guess what the unwashed masses are thinking.
they chose..poorly.

5. No One Seems To Get It Yet...

....Obama did not choose Warren because he agrees with his preaching/teachings.......Obama chose Warren as a political strategy to demonstrate his willingness to reach across party lines no matter how much they may offend some of his base...

Obama is going to need some right wingers on his side if he is going get some of his vision for America through.....Yes I to am baffled that he picked Warren and Yes I think perhaps including someone from the G/L community in his inauguration ceremony would be the right thing to do......but folks this is just a strategy not an endorsement....

Get over it.....

6. If you don't think
Warren and his followers see this as an endorsement, and if you don't think Warren is going to market this as endorsement, you don't know how they think.

From now on, Warren will be the go-to guy for the media when they want the religious view on anything. He will be the "pope of America." Gay marriage? Ask Warren. Stem cell? Ask Warren. Freedom of choice? Ask Warren.

He will be on national television more often than Obama. And, he will try to set the social agenda for the US.

Try to get over that.

16. "a true uniter"?? ha! that & "change" are meaningless campaign slogans
a "true uniter" would have had a nondenominational preacher, say from the UU church, who would include the essential truths of all the religions, instead of some bigoted, superstitious, small-minded petty asshole who thinks he has the right to render judgment on others--others who do happen to be Americans, by the way, but have now been told in so many words they're not welcome at the inauguration or anywhere else in this administration. so "unity," my ass.

"change" and "unity" are nothing but clever campaign slogans that suckered millions into voting for the same old corporate maintainers of the status quo. And "listening to the voters" is another meaningless bit of bullshit. We can see how Obama is "lstening" to the uproar about Warren. Like he could give a shit. Obviously he owes Warren some kind of favor or something, the usual DC patronage bullshit.

9. How much more of an endorsement can you give someone?
Out of the thousands of choices, you pick one guy, give him a plum spot, in front of millions of people, to speak not as representative of a particular church, but AS THE SPIRITUAL VOICE OF THE NATION, and that's not a frickin' endorsement?

Either way, it'll be nice to see this Warren garbage blow over.

Unless of course his invocation brings about the Great Tribulation.

15. Vetting is not the issue at all.
Warren was no unknown, the Sarah Palin analogy is weak as water when you're expecting 100 proof.
