PSA for the inauguration crowd. |
|
I went to the U.S. Botanical Gardens yesterday and talked to a U.S. Capitol police officer about the inauguration. He said that unticketed attendees would be able to get to the area around the Botanical Garden and the Garfield statue. That is just across the street from the Capitol lawn and a pretty good viewing area. I'm not sure if the information he gave was accurate. So if you went at around 2:00 am you might get a spot that close. I don't know if the info he told me is accurate for one and two, if it may be subject to change. He also said that D.C. had only started planning for the inauguration just this week. Anyway, thought I'd pass it along for what it's worth.

1. Thanks. That could be a useful tip, if no changes. |

The botanical garden is awesome too. Small, and stashed under the radar, so to speak. Very well done though. Makes you feel all tropically and jungly inside.
That could be a great spot.

on Inauguration Day. Did you mean going inside, or just standing in that general area?

The Newseum will be open. They've got a whole Inauguration and Parade thing going on that day. You couldn't see the actual Inauguration, but the parade passes by and it would be warm. http://www.newseum.org/plan_visit/about.aspx?item=pv_INAU081120&style=a

5. i got a really great prime viewing spot to watch the inauguration. |
|
my recliner, in front of my tee vee. :D
even tho' i'm in Baltimore, just a train ride and a subway ride away from the mall, I'd rather watch it on MSNBC or CSPAN. This is a historic occasion, but it's also going to be cold, crowded, and uncomfortable with a lousy view.
