Best Christmas gift wasn't under tree: Omaha girl celebrates at home after heart transplant

No more backpack full of IV equipment and medicines to lug around. No more defibrillator vest that poked Macy Stevens when she slept and left bruises on her body. No more hospital gown and no more tubes.

Macy Stevens, 10, is celebrating this Christmas with a new heart after her Dec. 2 transplant. She spent the day with family at her grandparents' Omaha home.

On Christmas, it's just a comfy sweat suit and bare feet on grandma's carpet as Macy, 10, plays Lincoln Logs with her cousins and sisters.

And this time, Macy's toenails don't look blue.

A little more than three weeks earlier, Macy underwent a heart transplant at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

Macy Stevens, 10, center, is celebrating this Christmas with a new heart. She spent the day with family at her grandparents' home in Omaha. Her father, Jordan, and sister Mia, 1, are pictured at left.

She feels well and her chest doesn't hurt. The feisty redhead is cracking jokes as she always has. And like most kids, she's excited about what she got for Christmas.

As Macy plays, parents Jordan and Karen Stevens, both 38, think of how glad they are to celebrate this Christmas.
