Happy New Year? 39 Firetrucks just passed my house - The Mont I live in is on fire! (fireworks) |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-01-09 01:41 AM by Ioo
So I was down the street at a friends house (400 yards from my house, but like a 90 degree bend in the road) and as we come around the corner, I see flames about 500 yards away... and fire trucks lights... as we pull into the driveway more and more trucks...
I live on the WVA VA boarder outside of Washington DC. Illegal fireworks in 50 mile an hour winds have fanned the flames.
Well I can calm down a little, to post and breath. The fire has been knocked back and looks like only 1 house looks burned. 39 fire trucks, we have no fire hydrants so the water has to be trucked up the mont.. the water coming off the trucks is freezing when it hits the roads.
I hope that this is not an omen of the rest of the year

2. Yah, they are the ones that set off the fireworks... so I wish I could say I was sad.. |
|
But we live in a forest.. we are under a high wind advisory, with 60 mph gusts... why you think it is a good idea, I am not sure...

5. Oh, I didn't realize the folks that started the fire with the illegal |
|
fireworks are the ones that lost their home. I don't think playing with fireworks or fire on a night or day like you have described is a good idea.
Fire scares the hell out of me, the owner of the empty lot next to me has piled his debris high and wants to burn it, I keep begging him not to. My house is too close to where the pile is and the ground to dry - I lost my home to Katrina and have only been in a house for a year, if I lost it to fire, I'd have to be committed.
Like I said, glad you are safe.

3. Not sure if your area is known for wild fires, but out here in SoCal, we are. |

Sorry to hear your New Years started out this way.

6. Why I hated working on the 31st as a medic |
|
the idiots...
On the bright side nobody was firing into the air, with real live ammo. Yep, seen that one too, more than I care to think or even remember..
Stay safe... and if you are religious, I am not, say a prayer for those guys. It is dangerous to respond during the year, but with the drunks on the 31st is doubly dangerous.
