More than donations, a better tribute you can make to Elizabeth Edwards |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 03:17 PM by shance
is to take good care of yourself and those around you.
Those in Washington have the best health care and the best doctors available.
I think what we can best do to help others is engaging more in activism and less in writing checks to huge institutions where we have absolutely no power over where our money is going.
Just be good to yourself, learn to eat healthy, stop smoking, learn more about cancer from others and from researching on the internet, and help those in your immediate vicinity.
I think that is the most constructive proactive way to help Elizabeth Edwards, and all others suffering from such a horrible disease.
Because its more than Elizabeth Edwards or any one person dealing with such a difficult disease, breast cancer affects thousands if not millions each year.

2. Only one problem with this. |
|
While it's certainly a good idea, it doesn't always prevent disease.
We need to find out the real causes of diseases like breast cancer, including environmental ones. It's not always the fault of the sufferer for not looking after her health better.

4. Living organisms are designed to fail...that's just the sad truth |
|
some have long lives, some do not.. and we never know whether we will be one of the lucky ones or not..
If everyone/everything that ever lived, did not die, imagine how crowded this place would be..
Unfortunately humans are the only organism aware of its own impending demise...(maybe that's why we are also the only organism that practices "religion")
I hope EE manages to stall for more time so she can raise her little ones, but I fear for her..It's sad to see such a nice person ill.

6. Absolutely. There are many different ways to help, as Shakespeare pointed out |
|
so eloquently I might add.

3. I'm also looking into how to become a bone marrow donor. |
|
If you really want to help, there are many "living donor" options that go far beyond just giving blood. A local news reporter here in LA just donated a kidney to a friend of his, and brought tons of exposure to the need for living donors.
It's not all just about research and cash donations--there are real, physical things we can all do to help.

5. Rock on Shakespeare**** That is such a good point. |
|
If you find information about giving marrow, will you post it here?
Thanks so much for the post.
