5. Thousands of children forced to flee Gaza airstrikes
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/fromthefield/219070/123106644588.htm

"At least 13,000 Palestinians have been forced to flee their homes in Gaza as the bombardment continues into its seventh day, Save the Children said today.

More than half of those displaced people are children.

Spokesman Dominic Nutt said: "Gaza, with a population of 1.51 million is one of the most densely populated strips of land in the world and many hundreds of homes are being hit by the airstrikes, causing fear and anxiety amongst the thousands of civilians caught in the crossfire.

"Many are seeking shelter away from areas that have been hit and are staying with relatives in over-crowded apartments. We are hearing of small apartments that have no water or electricity, which are now housing as many as 18 people..."

6. McClatchy: Civilian casualties rise as Israel presses in on Gaza City
Civilian casualties rise as Israel presses in on Gaza City

By Dion Nissenbaum

JERUSALEM &mash; Israeli forces began to close in on Gaza City Monday, ordering families in outlying towns and neighborhoods to flee, as world leaders launched a renewed push to bring the 10-day-old conflict to a swift end.

So far, Israeli units have faced lighter-than-expected resistance from Palestinian militants in the second full day of a ground invasion that followed eight days of aerial bombardment intended to undermine the Gaza's control by the militant Islamic group Hamas. But civilian casualties are rising.

Medical officials in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip said Monday that 523 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks, including 111 children. That marks a dramatic spike from the early days of Israeli air strikes that primarily targeted Hamas-dominated police stations, government buildings, mosques the Israeli military said were being used to store weapons, and the homes of Hamas leaders.

Early Monday morning, medical officials said, 11 members of one family, including five children, were killed in a northern Gaza City neighborhood after Israeli forces ordered them to leave their home.

Family members said they sought safety in another apartment that was then hit by an Israeli strike.

7. All of this misery just to drive up poll numbers for Labor/Kadima.
The invasion itself is turning into a complete flop with repercussions that can only harm Israel and it's ally the United States.

But, I'm sure that the leaders of Labor and Kadima see it as "practical politics" that may win them an election.
