Here's why the Coleman camp, if someone can come up with the money, |
|
will contest the loss, even though the result is a foregone conclusion.
It's all about the NEXT election, not this one. They want to whip his followers up into a frenzy (of feeling cheated), which they hope will help the party in the next go-round.
Fortunately, this didn't work in Washington state's similarly crazy Gubernatorial election -- Gregoire was reelected by a much bigger margin this time. Hopefully, it won't work in Minnesota either.

7. Well if you weren't concerned about the next election, why did you post? |
|
As for reading comprehension, I'm not the one who couldn't "understand" why there was no danger that the Supreme Court was going to grant a hearing to the birth certificate idiots.

2. If Franken does a good job |
|
it won't matter how whipped up Coleman's followers are. Franken will win re-election. 6 years is a long time and Coleman will be forgotten in 2014.
Coleman will be perceived as a whiner, a sore loser and Franken will do a good job for the people of MN and the country. Coleman should save his money and go apply for unemployment.

6. Much of the way Coleman has handled the recount |
|
has been about creating a perception of cheating. He challenged lots of ballots because of the way the MPLS Star Tribune was reporting the recount, by challenging he kept the perception of being ahead. Right now the whole calculation behind the scenes is about Coleman's political future, not about enfranchising voters.

8. People here in Wash St. forgot Rossi as soon as Gregoire took office. |
|
Gregoire hit the road running, and immediately started doing an excellent job. Rossi sat back and whined. And pouted.
Meanwhile, Gregoire was seen as an active and effective governor. Rossi spent those four years doing nothing but positioning himself to defeat her in '08. In spite of the fact that he was heavily funded with dubious money, and ran an extremely nasty campaign, the election was over by 8 p.m. Nov. 4th. Gregoire beat him by 6%, and he ruined what little reputation he'd had before.

9. Franken now has a great advantage - Legal costs |
|
If Coleman challenges the election results now and they do not find for him he will be liable for Franken's leagal costs. So basically if a challenge is issued all Franken has to do is keep on adding lawyers until Coleman squeels like a pig and goes home.

11. Plus, it'll hobble Franken's effectiveness during the first few years. |
|
He'll have to prove himself to an even greater extent that he would otherwise.

12. They Also Get to Keep Franken Out of the Senate For As Long as They Keep Paying the Lawyers |
|
The outcome is not a foregone conclusion either. This will be appealed all the way to the Supreme Court, which would likely give it to Coleman just because he's Republican.
