Former Republican Governor of MN calls on Coleman to concede
Carlson says Coleman should consider dropping election fight
The former governor said of a court battle: "I don't think it's winnable." Coleman will speak to reporters this afternoon.

Former Republican Gov. Arne Carlson said today that Norm Coleman should consider bowing out of the U.S. Senate election dispute.

"I don't think it's winnable," said Carlson, who served from 1991-99.

He said a court fight by Coleman contesting a recount that favors Democrat Al Franken could hurt the Republican's image.

"I think there will be a tremendous amount of public anger, I think it will hurt his reputation," Carlson said. "I think he's got to get on with his life. .. At some point you've got to recognize, it is over."

6. Yeah, they still have money and that is why they are still fighting.
They are going to have to pay a lot of money out in legal bills, but they have very deep pockets so they want to use that money to cast doubt on the election.

2. Norm Coleman sees this as a no-lose scenario
His political career is over if he concedes and it's still over if he loses a challenge in court.

Worst outcome by his thinking is a zero sum game.

Of course, that doesn't change the fact that Norm Coleman is a SORE LOSER!!!

15. Sad, but good ones really are out there.
I know several at work. Honest "R"'s. I'd rather have one of them go for office than Norm. Of course, I also understand why they don't want to run... apart from not being millionaires...

9. Um... well, if it hurts his image and raises public anger against him, maybe he oughta go through
with it.

I think I'm changing my mind.

WHATEVER makes a republi-CON look bad - I'm for it 100%! No. I take that back. I'm for it 100,000%

10. Ha, Coleman doesn't care if he hurts the Republican's image
Actually Coleman is they typical Republican politician - he's in it for himself. He has no intention of giving up his gravy train without it being removed forcibly from him. If his office on Capitol Hill wasn't locked to him, he'd hunker down in there until troops came to throw him out.

Coleman's reputation is trashed so who cares. He'll never hold another public office.

13. Carlson was a moderate
by most standards. He actually endorsed Obama. Glad to see he's trying to bring some reason to the mind of Mr. Coleman.

14. He's halfway decent.
Not all Republicans are bad and, of course, not all Democrats are good. (I usually go by what a person says or does rather than just a label of affiliation. And if I have to "take sides", I'll let you know.)
