5th grader: Mommy, what are taxes.
Mom: It's what adults pay to operate the government.
5th grader: So all the money to pay for the war you and daddy had to pay?
Mom: No, the government borrowed the money to pay for it.
5th grader: So you, Daddy and the other adults will pay it back next month? Next year? And the money for the plan Barack Obama is talking about, you and Daddy and the other adults will pay it back.
Mom: No it will be paid back, well we actually just pay back the interest and then borrow more money to actually pay it back.
5th grader: Interest?
Mom: We don't actually pay the money back that will be done in the future.
5th grader: Like when I'm an adult?
Mom: Yes
5th grader: We learned about that at school, it's called stealing.

2. very true except for the part |
|
where a 5th grader ends up paying back the money...at the current rate (heck even if we cut back tons) the 5th grader will only pay interest for his/her whole life and MAYBE grandchildren will work on the principle...
