Catholic girls not opting for HPV vaccine

http://topnews.us/content/22273-catholic-girls-not-opting-hpv-vaccine

Only 19% of Catholic Students in Calgary approve of the HPV Vaccine whereas about 70% public school students have already received the shot.

The disparity in numbers as the Calgary Catholic school board disapproved of the program on moral and safety concerns.

The Calgary Catholic school system, Calgary Bishop Fred Henry and all the Alberta bishops, have strongly opposed the vaccine and have not allowed it to be given in their schools.

The Alberta bishops have discarded the HPV on the plea that it is a sexually transmitted disease. If young girls are vaccinated against it, it would send the wrong message about sexual behavior. According to Catholic teaching, sexuality is a God-given gift and it should be reserved for marriage.

1. Smart move.
No one should trust any of the medical "advancements" that have arisen during the past 8 years.

3. "...have not allowed it to be given in their schools."
I thought it was given at the doctor's office.

4. I doubt this. One thing I learned in interviewing Catholic students locally is that they lie.
I bet a lot more have taken the shot through state medical clinics. It takes a while for them to tell the truth about things. But they learn early on not to trust ANYONE. :smoke:

5. If I was a woman I probably would not get the vaccine either.
And when the male vaccine becomes available I definitely won't get it.

6. Because, hey, lots of girls think "I'm not vaccinated against HPV, I'd better not have sex".
This strikes me as foolish.
