Does your congressman or senators belong to big oil? FIND OUT! LINK & SCREENSHOT
You can find out which of your reps needs a boot in the ass here:

http://www.priceofoil.org/oilandstate

The results I got when I plugged in my zip code weren't necessarily surprising, but more like factual confirmation. When it comes to war & trade, Feinstein breaks with big business not the American people. Her husband even got one of those scam contracts in Iraq.

Hopefully, when she gets tired of being a senator and moves to K Street, she'll be replaced by a real progressive.

the game is played. Corporations hedge their bets by spreading donations around just in case the candidate they really support loses.
That way they can say, "Hey, I greased your palm a little, throw a contract or two my way.":dem:

I just checked my state and they take big bucks from the Oil and gas companies too. I figured Mean Jean Schmidt and George Voinovich would be involved, but I never would have guessed Sherrod Brown did too. Our Government is rotten to the core. :banghead:

13. I'm really disappointed with Lisa
Before she went over to Iraq she was here talking with the military families, acting all concerned like she was really on the fence about the surge and all, like she might possibly make a break from the administration. Then all of a sudden, once she hangs out in the Green Zone for a bit, she's all in favor of the surge, we have to stay until the job is done (whatever that means -- this article makes it a little clearer), on and on and on. We're all real pissed off at her...we knew Ted and Don were lost causes, but there was some indication, a smidgeon at least, that Lisa might be a little more independent.

I don't see any hope for her now.

11. My letter to Feinstein:
I just found out on the Oil Change website that you have accepted SEVEN TIMES as much money from the oil industry as Barbara Boxer and my congressman Henry Waxman.

At this critical time in our history, when the oil industry is behind the push for war and blocking alternative energy from being widely available, taking ANY money from the oil industry means that your loyalties are divided between them and the good of the American people.

We cannot afford any more oil wars or to wait to seriously change our energy policy until after we burn the last barrel of oil.

Your integrity on the war is already in doubt because your husband is profiting from it.

If you want to represent the people of California, refuse future donations from the oil industry or leave the Senate and go live off the blood money your husband made on the deaths of our soldiers and Iraqis.

25. I'm flabbergasted!
I'm certainly not surprised that both of my senators (1 Dem and 1 Rep) have taken lots of oil money in virtually equal measures, but that my Rep has not. Given his record I can only conclude the oil industry is not presently targeting the House and greatly favors the Senate, a strategy that makes perfect sense to me.

Sorry, but hell will freeze over before I ever send a letter to Dave Weldon congratulating him for anything. :)

Politicians more than most.

Your post reminds me of anytime a Dem does or says something DUers disagree with

Obama dodging the question about gays being immoral
Kucinich vailidating Fox News
Feingold voting for Roberts
Richardson not calling for Gonzalez resignation
Clark voting for Reagan
etc etc etc

and we get a ton of posts "well THATS IT!!! He lost my support!!!"

It gets to be pretty silly.
(I am not saying that you are doing this by the way).

41. This is a fairly big one, and it's not a dodge but a lie. I am not his constituent and
he has said and done things I admire.

But I am troubled when Democrats parrot the right wing talking points because it looks like they mean to keep us in Iraq in spite of other anti-war noises.

If you ever get a chance to see him, ask him about the polls of Iraqis saying they want us to leave, and why the Iraqis concerns about the hydrocarbon law are being ignored and it's being shoved down their throats.

I would say ask him because there's a chance you'd get an honest answer as opposed to a republican or one of their more obvious boot-licks like Vichy Joe Lieberman.

Do you know when the site was last updated? I'm curious, because they say "for the 2006 election, they've already taken..." Does that mean they don't have the final numbers for 2006 yet?

because these results are reported by zip code, they don't allow for a change because of the November election . . . my new congressman, John Hall, is reported as having received almost $400,000 from the oil and gas industry since 1990, which is impossible . . . I can only conclude that the reported figures apply to the previous incumbent, Republican Sue Kelly . . .

My congressman (Tim Bishop NY-1) took a similar amount and he's a Democrat.

It was actually fairly surprising to see how little Clinton and Schumer got since they're both very influential Senators. When you compare their numbers to others, they are somewhat low.
