Might I suggest a DU Lexicon? |
|
I often see threads asking what is nt? what is K &R ?, etc. Shouldn't there be a place for someone to just check it out instead of asking the same question that countless others have asked?
I also often see clever (or not) turns of phrases that a DUer hopes might be picked up as coinage of the realm. It might be fun to give folks a place to post stuff like this, where it can be picked up or passed by. For instance, I see some are pushing "poutrage" as the word du jour. I personally tried to popularize my term own CRAP (Corporate Republican Approved Propaganda) as an alternative to MSM a year or so ago with no success whatsoever, but it would have been fun to make it an entry into the Lexicon.
I realize this could start looking like the Glossary in The Hobbit, but why not?

3. Who knew? I just checked and yes, there is a DU Glossary there. |
|
I have been here for 4 years and I never knew it existed. Maybe it could be pulled out of research and given it's own heading just so one would know that it's there. It doesn't show up in "Lobby".

7. I'm not a newbie, but I am still never sure exactly what DU is at any given moment. |
|
I have to admit that too many times I have to shake my head at what I see posted here.

10. I don't know either, but that's one of the things I like about it, how it changes. |
|
I am against people feeling like outsiders, so I think a glossary would we a Good Thing.

8. Ah. I was just about to post that, it is mentioned at our Wikipedia page. |
|
So, the OP may now disregard my earlier thread!
Though Wikipedia still rocks, and we can add to the DU page if we so wish.

11. TMI? Too Much Information |
|
TMI, not on the list.
I'd add it but can't figure out how to use the "talkbox".
