Wisconsin snowmobilers round up, kill five whitetail deer.

WAUPACA — State wildlife officials say a group of snowmobilers ran over five deer, killing four of them and severely injuring a fifth in what a warden calls a senseless act of cruelty.

Department of Natural Resources warden Ted Dremel said today no arrests have been made in the incident that occurred early Saturday morning about five miles south of Waupaca.

Dremel believes three or four snowmobiles were involved in what amounted to a roundup of deer in a farm field. Dremel says one deer was left tied to a tree and choked itself to death. Another deer had broken legs and was euthanized.

Dremel says five miles of snowmobile trails in the area have been closed. Some snowmobile clubs have offered $4,000 in rewards for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.

My theory is that it was either done by a bunch of teenagers who need some serious psychiatric help, or by a bunch of drunken idiots who need some quality time behind bars. :grr:

Is where I'm placing my bet....I thought I'd seen it all until the recent "deer drive" in our City...when it comes to deer and deer hunting, Wisconsinites (well, some of them at least) leave their brains at home ...

6. Well, we do have a problem with drunk snowmobiling in this state.

If it does end up being a bunch of drunk asshats, maybe that will be the impetus behind some serious legislative reform on drunk snowmobiling.

5. These asshats are the kind that make snowmobilers look bad.

The woman whose property that this particular snowmobile trail runs through has closed off access to her property until the culprits have been caught. This will also prod other snowmobilers into coming forward if they hear anything, as they now have to go 20 miles out of their way to get around that closed stretch.

I'm all for hunting deer; however the idea is to kill them as humanely and quickly as possible.
