Fitzgerald laughs about his US Attorney rating
"U.S. Atty. Patrick Fitzgerald on Thursday carefully sidestepped the political firestorm over the firing of eight U.S. attorneys but conceded he's been the butt of ribbing from friends over a mediocre rating from the Justice Department.

"Look, it really is not that big a deal to me," Fitzgerald said at a news conference announcing the latest public corruption indictment under his leadership. "I just do my job."

He said he hadn't discussed the matter with anyone at the Justice Department but made it clear he had been kidded plenty.

James Comey, a close friend and a former deputy attorney general who appointed Fitzgerald special counsel in the leak probe, agreed that it has been "the source of great merriment" among Fitzgerald's friends.

"I called him when it came out, and he said 'I'm just an average guy having an average day,'" Comey said. "He just laughed about it. It doesn't require its own rebuttal. It's sort of like saying, 'Derek Jeter is an average shortstop.'"

Fitzgerald acknowledged having some fun with the mediocre grade himself but chose to keep his jokes private.

1. I guess you have to consider the source of that grade
Not sure it's all that black a mark considering the dillholes who issued it.

2. It is ironic
Being rated by incompetent buffoons. Actually if the white house gave him poor marks because he was not lockstep loyal, that would be a nice bullet for a resume.

3. I agree!
On balance, he has the adulation of the public overriding any slop this administration puts out.

12. Actually, I think people misunderstand, they were poor performers at being buffoons...
hence the ratings being low.

4. I'm glad to read he's laughing about this
Anyone with an IQ larger than their shoe size will also find it funny.

In the meantime, Messrs. Gonzales, Cheney and Bush, do you hear footsteps?

7. In every photo I've seen of the blonde attorney with Fitz, she looks smitten.
It may be just admiration for her boss, but damn, he's a superhero by today's government standards & he's quite a hunk: great-looking, intelligent, & has principles for himself & for his work.

10. She's lovely, isn't she?
She's married and recently had a baby. I'm thinking it would be great to have such an ethical boss!

>damn, he's a superhero<

You took the words right out of my mouth ;-).

14. Yes, she is.
Knowing now that she's married with a newborn, that look is, no doubt, total admiration for her boss. Thanks for the info. :)

5. He may be laughing, but it could have happened
He could have been fired. THe Bush mediocrity will go down because the finer minds will outdo them.

6. They don't dare fire him now
can you imagine the firestorm if they tried to get him out?

9. That would be as questionable as, say...
George (Slam-Dunk) Tenet & Paul (I-lost-$9B-of-taxpayers'-money) Bremer getting the Medal of Freedom awards.
