Remember when we felt we had fallen down the rabbit hole, back when the 2000 election
was ended by the Supreme Court? We didn't think it would get worse. We resigned ourselves to another bad four year like the twelve years we had with Reagan/Bush I, more stalemate than worse. We didn't know how bad it would be until it started unfolding in a very short time after the inauguration. It started to feel like Germany when Hitler became chancellor. No kidding that was the way I felt as each event unfolded on what became the propaganda news. First all the liberal (left wing) news people were fired. Then the ones who were left, followed Bush around calling him a very popular President. No he wasn't popular. We were concerned with the secrecy that was enveloping Washington. We were concerned with his lack of English skills. We wondered how someone like him could be our President.

Almost a decade later we know how bad it is. We couldn't have imagined back then. It looks like we can't believe that we are going to climb out of that rabbit hole. I certainly hope so.

3. Down the rabbit hole, through the looking glass--That's exactly how I felt, too, Cleita...
I couldn't believe it--each new outrage--until finally they managed to destroy my faith in my own government.

You know, I was never afraid of Dick Nixon. Angry, yes, but not afraid. Bush and Cheney struck fear into my heart, and for that (among many transgressions) I can never forgive them.

I don't know if the dark stain of their legacy can ever be expunged. All I know is that Barack Obama (human, sure to disappoint sooner or later) is just about our last hope that we can do so.
