Remember the famous words of Wendy Vitter, wife of David, in 2000.
Edited on Wed Jan-14-09 01:33 PM by madfloridian
I thought of them again yesterday as I watched him be given enough credibility to question Hillary. I kept remembering what his wife, Wendy, said in 2000 when she was asked how she would act if her husband had an affair.

Wendy Vitter about unfaithfulness, year 2000.

"Vitter, 46, then became Louisiana’s first Republican senator since the end of Reconstruction, and has built a reputation as a solid conservative, opposing abortion rights, same-sex marriage and gun control. Last month, he took a leading role in efforts to kill the comprehensive immigration overhaul bill.

In 2000, Vitter was included in a Newhouse News Service story about the strain of congressional careers on families.

His wife, Wendy, was asked by the Newhouse News reporter: If her husband was as unfaithful as former President Bill Clinton, would she be as forgiving as Hillary Clinton?

“I’m a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary,” Wendy Vitter told Newhouse News. “If he does something like that, I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me.”

“I think fear is a very good motivating factor in a marriage,” she added. “Don’t put fear down.”

David Vitter, front and center at the hearing on the hill. Given such credibility.

Scandal-linked senator breaks a week of silence

Vitter, 46, acknowledged in a statement last Monday that his number was included in the telephone records of an escort service run by Deborah Jeane Palfrey, a woman dubbed by the news media as the "D.C. Madam."

In the statement, Vitter said the incident was "a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible."

"Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and from my wife in confession and marriage counseling."

Vitter's wife, Wendy, told reporters she had forgiven her husband when she learned about the escort service several years ago.

"I made the decision to love him and to recommit to our marriage. To forgive is not always the easy choice, but it was, and is, the right choice for me," she said. "I am proud to be Wendy Vitter."

I don't care what he does in his private life, but to give him the credibility he got yesterday is sickening.

Hell of a lot more difficult for the wife to get in there with a knife and cut off Mr. Happy than it would be if he were wearing boxers.

5. It was infuriating to watch him. How could they allow such a travesty?
It was wrong on so many levels.

He can see all the prostitutes he wants, but he loses his right to have such power to question others.

6. It actually struck me as something pathetically funny.
There he was huffing and puffing all high-and-mighty.

And I thought - "YEAH, GOP. THAT'S the best you got. Flaunt it all you want. It'll only remind people..."

All we have to do is keep repeating the mantra: "Obstructionist republi-CONS." Make 'em look bad. They're trying to block TRUE progress, Obama-style - the kind of progress we all voted for in RESOUNDING AND UNSPINNABLE majorities, back on November 4th when America loudly and firmly affirmed: Hello!? Anybody home over there in the elephant paddock? Can you read? The handwriting on the wall, for months, has said we want to do it THIS guy's way for a change - NOT YOURS.

They LOST. PERIOD. Sore Losermen ALL. And they need to sit there and take the humbling. If their way had been good, if their way had worked, if their way had proved beneficial for all the genuine Joe-the-Plumbers out there, THEY'D still be in the White House next Tuesday afternoon. THERE'S A REASON why that won't be happening. And they need to realize it. And the more we can remind the public about this - for being obstructionist and IGNORING, indeed, DEFYING the will of the people, the worse the republi-CONS will look, and the farther and faster will be their decline. And more lasting. We have to keep stressing the "Obstructionist republi-CON" line at EVERY turn. The same knee-jerk way any "self-respecting" GOP'er would rattle off such tattoed-on-the-tongue talking points as "activist judges," "moving forward," "personal responsibility," and "he kept us safe."

31. Well then WE have to do the heavy lifting - AGAIN.
Edited on Wed Jan-14-09 06:55 PM by calimary
I suggest when anyone calls his/her congressperson or senator to lobby for this, it be stressed - how much We The IGNORED People were right - that is, CORRECT - while all the know-it-alls and inside-the-Beltway in-crowd and all those with that precious fucking access got it WRONG AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. I'll match OUR track record here on the far left with ANYBODY's among the alleged hotshots in the DC media - ANYTIME.

The war.
The Iraq War Resolution.
WMD.
al Qaeda NOT being in Iraq in the beginning.
The Patriot Act and its extension.
FISA and its extension.
alito.
roberts.
mukasey.
Torture.
Extraordinary rendition.
Removing habeas corpus and otherwise trashing the Constitution when we're supposed to be about PRESERVING, protecting and defending it.

I could go on and on and on.

And we HAVE.

OVER AND OVER, AGAIN AND AGAIN, we've called, written, emailed, petitioned, marched, protested, and attempted all kinds of activism - all to deaf ears. And as it turns out - WE WERE CORRECT, OVER AND OVER, AGAIN AND AGAIN, and all those who SHOULD have listened to us and sneered instead, or looked the other way, or made excuses, or ignored us, or attempted to suppress or stifle or silence us, or laughed at us, or didn't take us seriously, or didn't make ANY time to hear our complaints, or filed our case work in the round file or the back drawer in the back room behind some file boxes and other stuff, or hemmed and hawed, or otherwise had their backbones surgically removed, WERE WRONG. And WE WERE NOT.

As I said, I'll match our track record for accuracy and prescience in warning repeatedly about impending disaster and lousy decision-making and the consequences thereof - against ANY of theirs. ANY TIME.

Those who would still put us on "ignore" would be well-served to be REMINDED how badly and repeatedly and consistently they got it wrong in the face of our constant warnings and pleadings. They need to be REMINDED of how crucial it is to listen to the people who got it right the first time. 'Cause we're STILL correct NOW.

Just like the one Ted Stevens got. Just like the one Joe Lieberman got after forming his own party to win.

So many others and their standing ovations.

It just kills me that the Rethugs get away with this crap and still consider themselves the upholders of "Family Values."
