he used a chain saw and captured it on his photo-phone.

i am in a quandary as to what would be an appropriate punishment for this guy.....

http://www.startribune.com/467/story/1075213.html

snippet:

Anthony Albert Gomez, 24, at first denied any involvement in the death of "Chevy", an Austrialian Shepard mix, but later told police that he instigated others to do it, telling them to "cut its head off" and to do it with a chain saw, the complaint states.

Gomez was an ex-boyfriend of the dog's owner, and told her he had seen the dog near his house after it went missing in February, the complaint states.

Gomez was arrested Thursday while police executed a search warrant in his home in the 100 block of Granite Street. Police found evidence of blood splatter in the basement of his house.

I find the beheading of the dog absolutely disgusting, yet I find your comment about cutting off the offender's balls disturbing in it's own right. Do you realize the amount of outrage that would from women on these boards if a man advocated ripping out a woman's ovaries if she was caught doing something equally attrocious?

Just something to think about.

16. WCCO also described the dog as a therapy dog. Here:
WCCO) A St. Paul family is both heartbroken and terrified tonight after their dog was killed.

St. Paul Police say someone cut off the dog's head and wrapped it in a box for the family to find.

The case is especially devastating because the Australian Shepherd was a special therapy dog owned by a 17-year-old girl.

"Nobody had seen the dog," said Bobbi Brown, mother of the dog's owner.

The family hung up missing posters throughout their St. Paul neighborhood. They frantically searched for their beloved pet, Chevy.

"When she got the package, that's how we found out," said Bobbi.

Left at the steps, a package in Christmas wrapping paper, addressed to 17-year-old Crystal Brown. She opened it.

"She was just hysterical. She was screaming, she said 'Grandma, it's my dog's head.' I said no it can't be... and it was the dog's head," said Shirley Brown, Crystal's Grandmother.

"I had to ask my grandma five different times, 'Is that my dog?'" said Crystal. "I didn't believe her."

Bobbi still sobs, recalling that day two weeks ago.

"They had the box outside on the stairs and his head was in there," she said.

The family said they were disappointed with how St. Paul police responded. They said officers didn't collect evidence, but told them to throw everything away. They also accuse two officers of laughing.

"And to sit and laugh and the dog's head is right in front of you at your feet ... give me a break ... so I reported them the next day," said Shirley.

A spokesman for St. Paul Police said he can't talk about the initial officers' response because that's an internal investigation now.

Crystal has a new therapy dog, a gift from her grandmother, but only an arrest will ease the family's mind.

"That is so cruel," said Bobbi. "I miss him."

The dog's body was discovered in a park. The family believes the suspect is someone they know.

St. Paul Homicide officers are investigating the case now, not because the dog was killed but because they consider what happened a high-level threat against the family.

32. This is a special case and warrants far more than animal cruelty charges.
The killing of a live dog with a chain saw is beyond pscyhopathic and has implications in that it was a therapy dog.

The District Attorney needs to look well at the books for a good indictment.

Since I don't support the death penalty maybe you could just torture him until he kills himself.
This breaks my heart. I love animals as much as I love anyone. If he had done something like this to one of mine, my heart would have overcome my reason and my ethics. I would kill him. Straight up, regardless of the cost to me, my conscience, my ethics... I wouldn't be able to control myself.

Yet most on DU become incensed when the death penalty is applied as a punishment to someone convicted of murdering a human being. And no, I'm not talking about cases where the death row inmate's guilt is in doubt. I guess if people on death row had butchered dogs instead of people, DU might be more in favor of the death penalty. I'm anti-death penalty myself, but I just find it ... interesting ... that the same group of people who are so often so vociferously against the death penalty are apparently in favor of torturing, maiming, and killing a sleazebag who killed a dog.

what would keep him from doing it to a person?

In my minds eye, I know what I'd think I might do to this guy, but I shall spare you.

Since cruel and unusual punishment is outlawed, tons of jail time is necessary in this case if convicted.

If these cops are smart, which they don't seem to be, they'd see if this guy, or his "buddies" are linked to anything else perverse in the area.

58. Yeah, I saw where they weren't going for animal cruelty, but some
kind of "terroistic act" or something...WTF are these cops thinking?...:eyes:

Charge him w/a whole crapload of stuff, there has to be mutilation laws, animal cruelty laws, "terrorist" something or other, threats...who knows what the laws are in the area, but he could be convicted on a fistful of kind of obvious ones...whatever gets him the most time...hopefully life.

Then again, if he had some illegal suda-fed that could have been used to produce meth, or a joint, then he'd get life..."umm...kids, drugs are bad". Most likely he'll shave his head and go into rehab...oh wait, this wasn't a millionaire "star", or an oxycontin addicted fat man...:eyes:
