Would you pay $30,000 for a Chevy Traverse? |
|
It looks like a nice crossover vehicle. But $30K? How about $16,000 with a 100K warranty?
Didn't GM hear.. we are in a recession.

1. With any new technology, the first ones are always more expensive. |
|
Like, would you pay $3500 for a computer with a 5.25" 360k floppy, 10Mb HDD, 640 k of RAM, and a 4.77MHz, 16-bit processor with an 8 bit bus? Lotsa people did. in 1983.

4. No, because I have no need for one. |
|
I also never buy a car brand new.
Seems like a fair price in that class of vehicle though.

5. It's an eight-passenger vehicle--think "more-efficient Suburban" |
|
Thirty bills isn't outrageous for that.
That thing looks like it's going to be a bitch to wrap, though.

I would pay $16K (and did) for a "$35K" used car :)
and then I would drive that one car until it fell apart from old age.. (as we have done and are doing with cars we have now..91 Accord EX & 88 Dodge pick up) This family does not "do" car payments:)

but I suppose it is competitive with the other vehicles of its type. A Cobalt starts at about $16000 they sure couldn't price that vehicle at $16000. I was looking at a Toyota Land Cruiser the other day a similar sized vehicle $73,000.

I also think he gets a pint of blood from every buyer with his blood type, right?

13. Ever hear of "Economies of Scale"? |
|
With every new technology, the "early adopters" of that new technology pay a premium, but in doing so, they provide the growth of the technology and the manufacturing base that grows, thus growing the "Economies of Scale".
When I was Director of Marketing for a very ill-fated startup, I and the CTO spent one hell of a lot of time trying to figure out how to balance quality and commodity parts to quickly reach those economies of scale. In the case of these autos, there is nothing truly "off the shelf" that they can turn to for their base technologies. Everything is being developed and re-jiggered in an ongoing process. That is expensive.

14. I said the same thing when I first saw the price tag |
|
Chevy mistimed this entry. I can't imagine paying that kind of money for a Chevy (especially now days). It looks like Dodge has a similar entry (I saw it yesterday looking around the lot). The third row of seats is nice, but the extra $10K is hard to justify.
I suspect if you wait around just a little bit there will be some serious reductions/incentives going on to push these out the door.

|
The cheapest being the Toyota Highlander at just under 26 grand, Honda Pilot starting over 27 grand, and Ford Flex starting over 28 grand. Maybe its just loaded with more options at the base price

So GM (now funded w/ taxpayer dollars) should LOSE $7,000+ per vehicle they sell.
Losing money per sales but making it up on volume wasn't that the stupid theme for dotcom companies. Essentially you want to turn GM into a non-internet dotcom?
Great idea. If you want a $16,000 vehicle then look at a Cobalt.
In related rants: I wish Ferrari would reduce their price to free with 2 proof of purchases from box of cereal (but not the expensive kind) plus $1.29 shipping and handling. Hey Ferrari haven't you heard there is a recession?

20. I certainly wouldn't. why is it impossible for any of the big 3 to introduce |
|
a "to and from" car? a scaled down version of their smallest car, that runs on electric. Gets 40 miles to the charge and a top speed of 65?
at most it would be a two seater, has a/c, heat and a USB plug for an ipod or other music device.
and price it around 13k. Why is that impossible?
because it wouldn't sell? That's total and complete bullshit. They would fly off the shelves, even in this economy.
