"The Ghastly One." about exploitation filmaker Andy Milligan. There is a passing quote about women's crude abortion and birthcontrol methods of the 60's and it was implied that Lysol was either a well-known birth control douche or aborifacient (hard to tell from the context).
Perhaps that poor woman in the ad is locked out because hubby doesn't want kids and is expecting his pre-pill woman to take up the slack. Perhaps she is feeing guilt for not giving in to him even tho she doesn't want more pregnancies. The odor issue just seems like excuses and entendre. In retrospect, the disappearance of these ads does seem to coinincide with increased birth control options and education.
