George Bush gave us a gift? |
|
No pardon for Scooter Libby? How does everyone interpret that move?

1. I think he is starting to worry about his legacy |
|
figures any significant pardons will hurt him, like it hurt President Clinton (with Marc Rich).

2. Do you also think that Bush was a hapless lackey for Cheney? |
|
And that he feels betrayed by Cheney and Libby?

3. That's a tough call to make. I think that is where history will eventually be the judge |
|
not on if the Bush admin was good or bad (clearly it's the worse our nation has ever seen) but rather who the true villians were. With out first hand knowledge (which I think books will eventually provide), it's hard to say who was manipulated and who worked together.

9. I figure there are more than a couple of turds hidden under the rugs. |
|
Time will tell how many. In the days ahead, there will be 'fresh' discoveries, I'm pretty sure.

It may be a really long time before the stink is finally finished off.
But now, right now, Tahiti Nut, I have to ask you as a fellow DUer, aren't you too just a bit kinda awed?

11. I'm filled with lots of feelings watching this. |
|
I remind myself that the problems we face as a nation AREN'T going to be fixed by one election ... or even a couple. We're in deep doo-doo ... and it didn't just start in the last couple of months or even the last 8 years. We have deep-seated flaws in our economic system that have resulted in a 30-year increasing chasm between the have's and the have-not's ... a 30-year decimation of the working class. We've given privileged status to income earned from the labors of others and have an extensive tax system (federal, state, and local) that today burdens the LEAST AFFLUENT disproportionally. We have a more REGRESSIVE tax system today than at any time in the last 70 years. It's appalling. At the same time, the functions of government at ALL levels are more tilted to serving the affluent and not the poor than at any time in my recollection.
And that's just a small slice of the domestic side of things.

12. Sure, of course, we're all but screwed |
|
But c'mon, we're over a hump of sorts. We have a president who is younger than us. A president who has said somethings that we always hoped to hear from a politician, and never did 'til now.
Guess I'm a bit too much of an optimist, but I am awed by what I see happening. Never thought I'd see the day.....

13. Yup. Without question. I've been tearing up and getting choked up, too. |

While I certainly recognize that Obama isn't as far left as I'd like (for EVERYONE'S benefit), this day is a plateau in our nation's history. We elected a man based on the "content of his character" ... and we did good. As I've said before, insofar as 'race' is concerned, the difference is that it didn't make a difference. That's fucking remarkable. I too Dreamed of a day in this nation that 'race' was a matter of enjoyable diversity and not a matter of division and hostility.
Maybe unlike many, I don't want to be "color blind." I LOVE the vast diversity of humanity. Vive la difference! The notion that such diversity is merely to be 'tolerated' is disgusting to me. It's to be celebrated. It's to be embraced. The remarkable uniqueness of each individual is of continuing fascination to me.
Obama is a remarkable man ... and then again, not so much. After all, we have a nation of 'heroes' who've accomplished MAJOR things against many impediments. He's one of us.
After those disgusting, privileged, elitist pieces of shit that've been impacting the Offal Orifice for the last eight years, Obama is a fresh of breath air.

You said it well: Obama is one of us.
Thank you, Sir. That's the thing I have been looking for, somehow I knew you could pronounce it.
