What my seven-year old said this morning at breakfast...
MSNBC was on in the background, as my two children munched on cinnamon rolls and yogurt. I
looked up at the television and we began talking about the inauguration and Barack Obama.

"Yes mommy," said my seven-year-old. "Martin Luther King Junior had a dream and today that dream is coming true."

I knew she had been talking about Martin Luther King in school, and we had talked about how important
he was. However, I had no idea that she had gained such a deep understanding of his ideals.

I thought it was amazing that she was able to grasp that dream--and to understand that it was
being realized today through Barack Obama's inauguration.

I looked at both of my children, and I had such hope for the future. Growing up, I was always told that
anyone in America--regardless of race--could be anything. Yet, somehow it didn't seem entirely true.

Our children and grandchildren will grow up during times when they not only hear that it
is true--they will see that it is true. They will live it.

"Yes mommy, Martin Luther King Junior had a dream and today that dream is coming true."

Yes it is, Riley. It really is!

Both of my children went bounding off to second and third grade--wearing red, white and blue--in celebration.

I've never been more proud of my country, as I watched them walk through those school doors today--and I've never felt
more hopeful about the world in which they will grow up

What a great morning!

2. Beautiful story...
As my wife always points out, "The children are paying attention -- even when you think that they aren't!"

I have a 7 year old daughter and she is excited about our new President; I think she feels the excitement from Mommy and Daddy!

It is nice to feel hopeful again, isn't it!?
:hi:

The USA has murdered thousands around the globe in many countries

some of them might want to get even

Children are growing up all over the world with visions of their friends and families blown to pieces by US bombs

What are the chances that one or more of them will want revenge?

USA has killed itself with all these killings across the globe

FEAR is gone

Revenge is growing in the young minds of the orphaned

Obama is gonna have a hell of a rough ride

But maybe he can pull the USA upwards

just maybe

(sigh)
