9. She's an Ed.D. That degree, and the Ph.D., are technically higher

degrees than the M.D., which is sort of viewed as a glorified Masters Degree in academic circles. The difference lies in the fact that you can't get the Ph.D. or the Ed.D. just by taking a prescribed sequence of courses, but must make an original contribution to the scholarship in your field, normally in the form of a dissertation.
