Question on closing Gitmo. |
|
Does closing Gitmo refer to just the prison and attached kangaroo court or the entire military base?

1. I think it's the entire base... |

and the problem is those people that have admitted to participation in 9/11. From what I understand there is no judicial process in place to charge and try them. After what is it 6 years?

It's technically on Cuba, which is considered a hostile nation. So, the US would probably want to maintain a presence there till Castro dies, Raul gets kicked out, and a more friendly democratic government is established. And I really hope this bad relationship with Cuba ends soon, under an Obama administration.
But what to do with that prime real estate? I got an idea. Club Guantanamo. The new destination for the assholes who created the financial crisis and cheated us of billions. And it won't be a resort stay.

4. They're only talking about closing the prison. |

Nobody in government has seriously proposed giving up the base itself in a VERY long time. The last time it was seriously discussed was during the base closings of the early 90's when the necessity of a Caribbean base was brought into question. The base has proven itself useful during humanitarian crises, and those situations were used to justify keeping it open. Plus, it rankles the Cubans.
