Edited on Tue Jan-20-09 08:42 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
The ceremony was a blast and will be one of the highlights of my life - but getting out....geez, what a clusterfuck! I'm still numb to the toes.

1. what was with the maze & dead ends of porta potties?
 :grr:  :grr:

Seems to me the Mall would have cleared out in no time had they opened up more places for people to get out.

Took me 2 hours to get from the north side of the Washington Monument to the hotel on 17th & I St NW.

5. tell me about it
and then there was the complete lack of communication with any officials working. I met many a National Guard member today who was as in the dark and frustrated as we were.

But don't take this as all complaining. I still had a great time. Just think the Parks Service did an abysmal job handling the crowd.

9. I was walking up 18th since 17th was closed off
and they kept running ambulances up & down the damn street....hey, what a way to get the crowd cleared out....keep making them stop for an ambulance that's going to do nothing but turn around & head back in the same direction.

3. my daughter was there and just called me--
she says they spent about 2-1/2 hours on the metro coming back to the hotel (getting there, too, and waiting in line). Their hotel is in Alexandria, VA. She said she has dark circles under her eyes from being so tired. She called it pure chaos. They are back at the hotel now watching the inaugural balls on TV. I hope they get rested up enough for a safe long 10-hour drive home tomorrow.

we barely got out before sundown and one member of my group was nearing a health crisis.
hope they all make it home safely and comfortably

6. yep I posted three pictures!
It was COLD, My hands were freezing so I didn't take many pictures.
My 3 best:

we were far back but all these people were BEHIND US :D -

people in all the trees, they're hard to see though -

taking a bridge back to Arlington-

I took a short video of when he came out, it's just a shot of a jumbotron and the crowd under it starting to freak out! I might post it tomorrow, even though it's short. It's my little history :bounce:

11. I am back in Newport News. I am so tired. I'm glad I went. Also,
went to the DU meetup. More on that later, after I've had a chance to rest.
