Proposed Constitutional Amendment: Presidents are required to smoke
I'm thinking back over a few past presidents. FDR and Eisenhower were both cigarette smokers. Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon and Clinton were all cigar smokers. All these men did great things in office, although Nixon's work in going to China was tempered by his predilection for felonious behavior. Our current president is said to enjoy cigarettes.

OTOH, Reagan and both Bushes were nonsmokers, and we know how badly they trashed the country. Carter was also a nonsmoker--he didn't trash the country, nor did he do anything really groundbreaking.

Whether tobacco smoke bestows greatness on a president or because the kind of great men who aspire to the presidency smoke is an open question, but it can't be denied that our better presidents have smoked. Further, one must admit that nonsmoking presidents have wreaked havoc on the world on more than one occasion.

Just in case presidents need tobacco to be successful, I move we amend the qualifications for president to include the requirement that they smoke and a permanent ban on anyone related in any way to Prescott Bush from holding any federal office.

2. Pretty sure Reagan was a smoker.
Supposedly quit, either when his brother died of cancer or when he started running for the presidency. I've heard both.

9. It must have been when his brother died of cancer
I know the jellybeans thing started when he was Governor of California--had a nice big jar of Jelly Bellies on his desk. That was the only human thing about him.

4. Mmmm, how I miss cigarettes.
I eventually didn't smoke that nasty ass Phillip Morris stuff. I was gettin' some really nice pure virginia tobacco and some turkish from a farmer in NC who sold it on line. Mix those two together, and damn it was tasty. You guys smoking Camel Lights don't know what a good cigarette tastes like. Oh, and the fancy brown filter tubes. Those were nice...

But alas, I'm two years clean. I don't even smoke in my dreams any more.

Maybe I'll make some kind of deal with myself where if I can get under 200 pounds I can start smoking again.
