Baby's phone call from indoor marijuana farm lands dad in jail

OTTAWA (AFP) — The Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded to an emergency 911 call in which the caller hung up without saying a word, Constable Janelle Canning told AFP.

The officers entered the White Rock residence, after knocks at the door went unanswered, she said.

"The father was very surprised to see us and insisted he hadn't called police," she said. "The officers then observed his 11-month old child playing with a cordless phone, pressing buttons randomly."

The mystery caller was identified, she said. "It appears the baby called us."

During a routine search of the house, the officers also uncovered 500 marijuana plants in two locked rooms on the main floor.

3. A local guy called the police to report that someone had broken into his house
and stolen all his marijuana plants. The police helpfully showed up and asked to see where the plants were. The guy took them to a back bedroom, opened the door, and the room was full of marijuana plants. The guy said "The son of a bitch must have brought them back."

Moral of the story: Don't smoke and dial.

'It was a wrong number? Oh well we'll just do a routine search of the house, you know it's routine.' Locked rooms!!! WTF!!!

5. Maybe Canadians don't have the same Constitution as the USA
I don't think a search without warrant or probable cause would be appropriate in the USA

6. Actually, it would be routine. If the cops get a 911 call with no further
information, they don't know that someone is NOT in trouble until they look the place over. If a sex offender was holding someone in a back room who had gotten their hands on a phone for 30 seconds, and the cops just took his word for it that there was no one else there, heads would roll. The 911 call is, in itself, reasonable grounds for a search.

7. As far as I am concerned, those who lock up people for drugs are kidnappers.

10. And we always worried the kids would call China and incur a big charge!
Maybe they had 911 on speed dial. Otherwise, what are the odds the baby would dial 911? Baby dialing would seem more like 999, or 888
