The state’s December jobless rate rose from November’s rate of 9.6% to 10.6%, the state’s Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth said today."

It's been a while since I graduated from college and haven't been able to find anything. Luckily, I still live at home w/my parents so I'm not in a desperate situation right now. It's sad to see people who are in real trouble, losing their homes, cars, etc. I'm sure the real unemployment rate is actually closier to 20%.

The method used to compute unemployment by the BLS sucks anyway.

10. I "fondly"remember those Reagan years in the 80s

My employer back then was Conrail. After they made their first profitable year in 1981 after combining the Pennsylvania and the New York Central railroads, they then proceeded to begin to lay off hundreds of employees in the height of the recession, that worked in the Michigan Central Station. I was one of them. The hulking and abandoned 13 story tombstone that remains to this day is one of the more visible testaments to the deaths of many industries and businesses in the city of Detroit.

But the economy was much more isolated from the world economy then.
