Yesterday at the announcement of Mitchell and Holbrook at State, Holbrook gives a warm shoutout to his 'friend', the Darling of Central America, Death Squad Negroponte.

Today in Albany, standing next to Paterson and all the democrats on stage with him - but **right** next to the governor and very prominent - is Asshole Al D'Amato.

Some things just make you go "What the fuck?"

4. He has some connection to Gillibrand, too
Not sure what it is, but The Good Mrs. Greenspan was was yammering something about it that I failed to hear until she was pretty much done dishing.

11. And it turns out her grandma was a Democratic activist.
Ms. Gillibrand comes from a politically sophisticated family: her father was an attorney and lobbyist with ties to George Pataki; her grandmother was a prominent Democratic activist in Albany who brought Ms. Gillibrand along with her on the campaign trail.

8. Many people who work full-time in politics are able to overcome partisanship and make friends with
the other side. Ted Kennedy and Orrin Hatch are good buddies, even though they disagree on many issues.

15. They work for President Obama
and the president has been reaching out to GOP members past and present, making nice wherever he goes, and reaching out all over the place so he can pass a bunch of really heavy bills.

Foggy Bottom is riddled with GOP partisan lifers, some of whom predate Reagan. They're suffused throughout the bureaucracy, and can really jam things up if they wish. Clinton had the same problem when he arrived in '93.

Obama appears to be telling his people to make nice noises in the direction of the old guard. Nice words for those clowns have zero force or effect, make no tangible changes to policy plans or goals, and are meant solely to grease the rails a bit.

EVERYONE in the Obama administration is saying nice things about these idiots. It's called "Lip service," and if paying it makes their work even 0.0001% easier, well, that's the point.
