Overheard at work yesterday |
|
"Did you know that the Dow dropped something like 300 points the day Obama was inaugurated?. They are saying it is because they wanted to send him a message."
Seriously, where do people get this shit? AM talk radio or FOX?
My god I work with some real dolts.

6. Wishing For Failure... |
|
Do you honestly believe when a GOOP talking head says they want President Obama to succede they really mean it? Or a Pruneface McConnell? It's lip service at best and gets them face time on a corporate media eager to pretend they're presenting "balance" as we all know that if there's a single glitch in this new Administration, they'll be the first to pile on and only complicate matters.
I see President Obama's attempts to reach out as a way to disarm various factions...playing his numbers where he needs to. The deal is he needs a couple votes in hand in the Senate to get a lot of his agenda rolling...not just picking up a couple of GOOP votes, but also covering for any Democrats who may not be happy. We saw this in action yesterday with the Geitner confirmation. And I suspect we'll see variations of this same game to pass a lot of legislation in the months ahead...and yes, people are gonna be pissed. Governing is not a popularity thing.
The GOOP is in its own battle right now...who is their leader? McCain? McConnell? Boner? Rushbo? Dobson? Warren? Palin? The thing is not only don't we know...neither do they and it's game on to see who emerges. It's interesting to see how Obama's calling out Rushbo has spintered a lot of GOOPs...as he is sure to exploit this leadership void.
Hell...it's no fun being a wingnut these days...all that frustration and anger and so many people to be pissed at. Well...maybe they're in their glory...
Cheers...

9. The Dow dropped Bush's last day, it rose Obama's first day, up 150 points |
|
January 20 was the last day of Bush's Presidency and yes, indeed the market did drop that day as it had been the last month of Bush's Presidency, and indeed did the entirety of his Presidency. The DOW rose on the 21st, which was Obama's first full day in the White House and in fact it has not dipped to the Bush low since.
