Weird. People Losing Jobs Like Crazy, Recruiters Calling Like Crazy
I dunno. Maybe they're all under the gun to get recruitment up to get their finder fees, but you don't get finder's fees if there's no jobs.

So, why am I getting calls and e-mails from recruiters all of a sudden? These are legit head hunter firms that I've worked with before, but I'm not actively looking for a job right now.

My guess is that companies are looking to dump high-priced senior & middle management and are seeing what the going rate is for their possible replacements.

6. CA, but the jobs they call about are all over the country.

I wonder if they need to make a certain amount of calls to keep their jobs, irrespective of whether they actually place somebody.

One would imagine that it's an employer's market when it comes to people getting hired these days. Employees are behind the 8 ball.

8. I think you are so right about
making a certain amount of calls to keep their jobs because the jobs just aren't there.

9. What profession/industry/area?
This is one of the strangest things I've read recently.

Don't mean to be nosy, but I just found this friend very interesting and totally opposite of what we are hearing daily in the news.

Check out the Sunday NYT this past week. The style section had an article about employees doing "fake work" so that they look really busy and therefore necessary, even if there is very little real work to do. Given this, maybe your theory is right.

2. I get a phone call or an email from at least one recruiter on an almost daily basis.
I agree, it does seem like they are being more aggressive lately with their networking. I understand and appreciate the position that they are in, but it gets rather annoying being on the receiving end of those cold calls.

14. I'm a CPA and I work as an internal tax accountant for my company in Atlanta, GA.
Most of the recruiting phone calls I receive are from those looking to fill positions with public accounting firms. In my experience, at least, those companies seem to be somewhat shielded from downturns in the economy and seem to always be understaffed--at least the companies that *I* worked for always were! Regardless of the economy, companies still need someone to prepare their tax returns, perform their audits, etc. As such, I think that most of the larger CPA firms are still looking to fill positions.

4. I got a call from one today
but I told him I'm not interested in relocating to the Quad Cities, even though I'm not confident that the company for which I work will make it through this recession/depression. Relocating right now could be like jumping from the frying pan right into the fire.

12. What industry/prof./area do you work in?
I'm annoyingly enough asking this of everyone on this thread who has experienced this.

It's so opposite of what we are hearing on the news and I think it's fascinating.

Maybe just a case of the recruiters trying to appear "busy" to their own employers?

11. This is interesting. It parallels my situation, where everyone I know is having his/her credit
limit cut, and mine was just increased.

I sure would love to know what is going on. It's obviously some sort of renewed criteria system in both the hiring and credit finance industry.

13. This Goes Along With My Theory......
check out this link to my earlier post: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4920855&mesg_id=4920855

I really think a lot of companies are using this economic crisis as cover.
