All these guys have to act as though they support the war to get the Republican nomination then turn around and talk about getting us out. They can't win on a platform that suggests more of the same as the American people want us out of Iraq. Seems to me the Democrats are in a much better position to win in 08'.

1. What? Dame Rudy trounces most Dem candidates in most polls
and McCain beats many Dems in many polls too. And they are warmongers. Dame Rudy was even beating Hillary in blue state polls in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

It will not be all about Iraq in 2008.

2. Not as difficult as it may appear:
http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/16962753.htm
....Last April, while the Justice Department and the White House were planning the firings, Rove gave a speech in Washington to the Republican National Lawyers Association. He ticked off 11 states that he said could be pivotal in the 2008 elections. Bush has appointed new U.S. attorneys in nine of them since 2005: Florida, Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Arkansas, Michigan, Nevada and New Mexico. U.S. attorneys in the latter four were among those fired.

5. Let's see...
They've got, or will have...

More money than God to campaign with...

Almost total control of all major media outlets...

Controlling interests in most of the electronic voting machines across the nation...

Yep, they're running scared alright.

6. Democrats may defeat themselves
if Congress doesn't turn away from the leadership of the Blue Dogs and assert the power of the Progressive Caucus.

Despite a few investigations that are being stonewalled by the White House, most of them seem ready to WIMP* out, no matter what sort of new outrage may occur, and they seem to occur daily.

They need to stand up to this bunch, to pass progressive legislation that will actually help people here, and amass a record of pubbies voting against economic decency and their great leader vetoing nearly everything that gets through.

*Won't Impeach the Murderous Prick

7. I agree that they are going to start criticizing the conduct of the war for '08--
but the GOP candidates can't go so far as to recommend a withdrawal, at least not a major one. They are all being groomed by the neocons to take over the Big PNAC Plan--they can't go back on that. Instead, BushCo will probably stage small troop withdrawals near election time in '08 as token evidence of "success" in Iraq to boost their chances. I have no doubt they will manipulate this war to their advantage somehow. Dems shouldn't count on the war as a winning issue--they need to keep thier focus on it, but mostly they need to highlight why the conservative/'Pug philosophy is at the heart of every fucked-up policy (or lack of policy, like health care) in this country right now.
