The miltary regs forbid Bush using our troops as political props
by John Aravosis (DC) ·

The DOD regulations make clear that the White House cannot use uniformed military, active duty or veterans, as props in political events. But that's what Bush did today when he used current or former troops in uniform as window dressing for his political press conference attacking the Democrats as un-American. Is this now the official policy of the US military, that Democrats don't support the troops? What are we, a banana republic now?

Let me quote the relevant regulations...

snip//

So, no one can wear the uniforms at political events, which this most certainly was, vets can't wear them at anything short of funerals, weddings and parades, and medal of honor winners can wear them at more events, but still not at political events, which this was.

But and the Republicans only like our veterans when they can use them, and when they have 4 limbs.

3. That Army chick
Looks pretty hot. I dig her. Doubtless, that's why they picked her to be in the photo op: "We support our men and women in uniform, and, by the way, some of them are hot."

Seriously, though, this use of the military is pretty sleezy. I wish that one day they would put someone on who was inadequately vetted who would just get in a big argument with Bush on the war. That would be hysterical.

9. What was she doing there?
Would it have been ok for her to stand behind Pelosi while she demanded an end to the war?

If she was assigned by her commander to be at this speech that's one thing, if she chose to show up in uniform at a political event that rips into a political party that is another.

Forgive my ignorance, what/where was that event anyway? Anyone?

17. The answer to your last question
This was yesterday after the Democratic vote on Iraq. Within 15 to 30 minutes after the vote Mad king Boy George held a presser and had his stand in "military props" standing directly behind him...:puke:

I don't have the foggiest idea of what her MOS was. Public Relations, probably.

20. that army "chick"
does not need your fuckability rating in your post.

Just cause your a liberal doesn't mean you get a free pass to objectify women.

-- A former army "chick" who resents that women can't appear in public in a professional context without some ass letting us know whether she is or isn't hot, lest we forget we are ALWAYS judged first and foremost as sex objects.

5. I find his actions
extremely offensive. His cowardly use of the military folks as a backdrop reminds me of some yappy-mouthed gang "leader" having his boys back him up. He should be prosecuted for violating the human communities' standards for obscenity.

7. It's not the first time
fucknutz* has been using the military for a backdrop ever since he was installed, from mission accomplished, to the backdrop where they replicated the same soldier about trwenty times, on and on.

10. I'm really curious
Edited on Sat Mar-24-07 02:43 PM by Babel_17
Is the administration directing the military to have good looking soldiers stand behind the president when he makes speeches?

Are they just happening to be standing there?

I wish we had a MSM that had the fortitude to demand answers. The president wasn't speaking in Iraq, this was a staged event, if there were military in the background it's (likely) because the administration ordered them to be there.

The civilians at these events have a choice. They don't have to give the appearance of supporting the president or his speech.

Presumably that soldier had no choice. And imo that's a huge issue.

Tho' I (and many others) did wear bits and pieces of my uniforms at anti-war demos in the '60s/'70s.
