The DOD regulations make clear that the White House cannot use uniformed military, active duty or veterans, as props in political events. But that's what Bush did today when he used current or former troops in uniform as window dressing for his political press conference attacking the Democrats as un-American. Is this now the official policy of the US military, that Democrats don't support the troops? What are we, a banana republic now?

Let me quote the relevant regulations...

So, no one can wear the uniforms at political events, which this most certainly was, vets can't wear them at anything short of funerals, weddings and parades, and medal of honor winners can wear them at more events, but still not at political events, which this was.

But and the Republicans only like our veterans when they can use them, and when they have 4 limbs.

Seriously, though, this use of the military is pretty sleezy. I wish that one day they would put someone on who was inadequately vetted who would just get in a big argument with Bush on the war. That would be hysterical.

If she was assigned by her commander to be at this speech that's one thing, if she chose to show up in uniform at a political event that rips into a political party that is another.

Is the administration directing the military to have good looking soldiers stand behind the president when he makes speeches?

Are they just happening to be standing there?

I wish we had a MSM that had the fortitude to demand answers. The president wasn't speaking in Iraq, this was a staged event, if there were military in the background it's (likely) because the administration ordered them to be there.

The civilians at these events have a choice. They don't have to give the appearance of supporting the president or his speech.

Presumably that soldier had no choice. And imo that's a huge issue.
