Crappy service
I have noticed something as of late. I have been receiving BETTER customer service in several of the stores I frequent.
Have the stores FINALLY realized that IF they do not take care of their customers, that the customers won't spend their limited resources in their place of business?
Cases in point. The convenience store where I buy gas now has a full serve attendant. My last visit to the Home Depot I was greeted at the door and had several employees ask if I needed assistance. Tonight when I went out and got pizza, the manager carried my pizzas to the car for me.
I think about the demise of Circuit City. While I feel badly for the people losing their jobs, I feel WORSE for the experienced technicians who they let go last year so that they could hire minimum wage workers who knew NOTHING about their products and were clueless if you needed any advice other than to ask where the bathroom was. Personally, I think that move was partially to blame for their ultimate demise because THAT is when I stopped shopping at Circuit City.

1. I went to Loews the other day
and every employee said "good morning, can I help you?" A first.

2. Yes you are correct
nameless horse. The employees also realize how fortunate they are to have a job and are trying to keep hold of it by improving customer service

I have noticed it too

3. Funny, I've noticed the exact same thing, esp in Penney's -- a store
where the clerks have sometimes been inattentive (but not rude). The last couple of times I've gone in, I've been treated like gold. I've noticed the same thing in Lone Star Steakhouse, where we went tonight. Quick and friendly service.

4. I've noticed that the personnel are nicer than they've been,

but they may just be nice people and they may also be as happy as we are about our President!

5. They've always treated me like a princess at Safeway.
I don't care if it's more expensive and they donate to the GOP. I fucking LOVE Safeway. Plus, at the one near my house all the employees are union.

10. Gawd, I miss Safeway!
Moved here to NY almost two years ago, and I really do miss the Safeway stores in the Northwest!

I still keep my little red card for the times I go back to visit friends and family!

7. You're not the only one who noticed that
I've noticed lately that standards of customer service have gone WAY up. Home Depot was the first place where I noticed it, but it's been pretty distinct elsewhere, as well.

11. It depends
My lady has still gotten insulted by gas station attendants. They just don't give a shit.

On the other hand, I'm almost always pleasant to deal with, and service personnel seem to respond positively to that. I will seek out a familiar cashier at each of the grocery stores I go to, and they more often than not will remember me.
