If the government had given the money to the people--would we even need to worry about funding |
|
welfare and food stamps? I believe the figure that I read (and it could be wrong) was that if all of the money that went to the banks and to GM, every American adult would have received something along the lines of $100k each. I'm so fucking mad when I read that GM took some of that money to Brazil. And Wall Street gave bonuses and the banks are holding on to the cash. NOTHING has changed for the average American except that we collectively sold our kid's soul to enrich the future kids who would have already been wealthy beyond measure anyway...while our kids will lose out because they will be the ones paying for it. I would like to think that the states could have taken a deep breath while not having to fund food stamps and Medicaid and AFDC for awhile because if every family was guaranteed at LEAST $100k, it would have been a once-in-a-lifetime shot for everyone to make themselves solvent. I think I will go pet my cat and get my blood pressure back down after I read that.

that 700 Billion I don't care if every person got $1,000 it would have done much more for our economy than this. At least we would have spent in the US and not in foreign countries.

4. The other thing that I am seeing as I commented in another thread |
|
Cheap, unhealthy filling foods being touted as being "good for you" and a HUGE increase in military recruiting commercials. This is war. They just got a big head start on us.:(

10. "Katrina in slow motion" - you pretty well got it there - |
|
. . .
ONE homeless person freezing/starving to death in the USA should be preventable.
BUT
The USA has decided it's more important to kill thousands overseas than to keep those in their "HOMELAND" alive
Imagine what the Trillian dollar War budget could do if it was spent on food/housing/health care -
silly me
Make bombs and bullets - piss off the whole world!
USA Nomba One!

7. Actually $700 billion divided among 350 million men women and children |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 07:29 PM by geckosfeet
is $2000 each.
Since some of those folks live in the same households you would have multiple checks going to the same family!
This would have done much more to stimulate the economy than paying ransoms to bankers.
