Cheney Says, "House Does Not Support the Troops"

Cheney is in Florida saying that the US House's funding of the troops is somehow "Not supporting the troops". Hey Dick, if I recall, you are such a coward that you never served in the service. In fact, I think that you went out of your way to get deferments so you did not have to serve. If I recall, you said, "I had better things to do at that time".

So I say to you, Dick, and I will say it in a way that you can understand, "Go f*ck yourself you coward"

The House funded the war, and support them so much that they want to bring them home. Thanks to you it is no longer about supporting the troops, it is save them from you guys!

THE HOUSE FUNDED THE TROOPS, THEY ARE GOING TO GET WHAT THEY NEED. YOU GUYS ARE WELCOME TO VETO IT, AND IT WILL BE US THAT DOES NOT SUPPORT THE TROOPS. BIG WORDS DICK FROM A KNOWN COWARD!

thereby making this a veritable echo chamber. (And possibly a zoo - too bad I don't have an animal-related name, too!) ;)

Well, we who have animal-related names give some weight to the Freepers' claim that DU is a zoo.

But what do they know?

11. That's pre-2006 election thinking, Dick.
That lie stopped working for you...

Oh Hell, why bother? It's not like he's conscious enough to even know what happened in 2006. I doubt his brain is even wired to his vocal chords anymore. He's probably just got a chip like my kid's talking toys. Someone stands him up and touches a spot in his back to make his eyes open, and one of eight phrases spews out, as though he were still alive. Let's see, aside from that one, there must be seven others. "It's Clinton's fault." "Reagan proved deficits don't matter." "That's pre-9-11 thinking." "How do you aim this goddamned thing, anyway?" "What's this little lever do?" "Somebody call Karl and tell him to save my ass again." "Can you get me to the hospital?" and "No officer, I haven't been drinking."

19. Supporting the troops
Edited on Sat Mar-24-07 10:20 PM by butlerd
Has become one of the most meaningless (and mindless) phrases that we keep hearing from the RW crowd, all of whom seem to have an extremely strange and bewildering (at least to me, since I am, after all a "liberal") understanding of what exactly it means to "support the troops". For me, "supporting the troops" means:

1.)NOT sending them to fight unprovoked and unnecessary wars, ESPECIALLY under patently false and/or misleading pretenses.
2.)Ensuring adequate time between tours of duty for service members to recuperate AND SPEND TIME WITH THEIR FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES(I thought that GOP was supposed to be all about "family values"?).
3.)Ensuring safe, adequate, and CLEAN medical facilities and treatment following injury and NOT forcing injured soldiers to return to active combat duty before they are fully recovered from their injuries and able to perform at their best.
4.)Ensuring adequate pay and benefits for service members during and following service.
5.)Ensuring that the policies that the government has adopted are NOT causing the people that we're trying to help to hate us (i.e. DON'T torture people!)
6.)NOT discharging people with important skills applicable to the area of service (i.e. translation skills) just because they happen to be gay or lesbian. If this "war on terror" is so important as Bush, Cheney, et. al like to point out over and over again, then why should we purposely prohibit otherwise highly skilled/qualified gays and lesbians?
7.)Ensuring that there are clear goals and benchmarks for the mission (aka "exit strategy") and pull our troops out when we have accomplished our objectives (which, as far as I can tell we have long since done).

Although I'm unhappy that the Democrats have had to "compromise" a bit for the sake of politics, I AM pleased that they have taken the first steps towards increasing the pressure on Bush for an eventual withdrawl(which is what we're going to have to do anyway at some point. If they've pissed Bush/Cheney off, then that makes me feel even better! I think that we have a good sense of what it REALLY means to support the troops and we should be proud that we do NOT "support the troops" in the same way that Bush/Cheney, et. al seem to. WHAT are THEY doing to "support the troops" anyway? Maybe it's time that people start asking THAT question?

23. here's some facts... hit them with the truth
"The $124 billion emergency war bill the committee approved on Friday contains a wide range of funding for health care programs in the Defense Department and Veterans Affairs departments. Funding for DOD health care programs covered by the bill includes:"

$450 million for post-traumatic stress disorder/counseling.
$450 million for traumatic brain injury care and research.
$730 million to prevent health care fee increases for U.S. troops.
$20 million to address the problems at Walter Reed.
$14.8 million for burn care.
The bill increased funding for the VA's health care programs by $1.7 billion, including:

$550 million to address the maintenance backlog at VA health care facilities to prevent situations similar to those at Walter Reed.
$250 million for medical administration.
$229 million for treatment of a increased pool of veterans.
$100 million to allow the VA to contract with private mental health care providers.
$62 million to speed claims processing for returning veterans.

This is the extra money that the Dems "slipped into this bill for their pet spending projects", according to President Bush. If he vetoes this bill, this should be hung around his neck for the rest of his life.
