How long before the shit hits the fan ?? |
|
We have been averaging almost a half-million unemployed for the last 4 months. How long can this continue before the system collapses? In six months, we will be in double-digit unemployment. Forty states are almost bankrupt. How are they going to pay for unemployment insurance or any other social programs if the situation continues to deteriorate? Or will we be improving in six months? Will companies be hiring? Will the banks be lending? Will folks be buying new cars and homes? An optimist might say that will be the case? I am not as optimistic as I used to be...

the Big Fan. The one that keeps us cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The one that fills our bellies when we are hungry. The one that gives us a paycheck each week. The one that provides shelter from the storm. You know?

2. Not long. Californians have been told they will not be |
|
receiving their tax refunds nor an other benefits for 30 days. This deadline is sure to pass without any recourse for those affected. Of course, somewhere along the line, California will have to be bailed out but by the time that happens, there will be rioting in the streets.

7. I'm thinking that the OP knows |
|
the shit has hit the fan and may be wondering if there could be another, bigger, fan someplace with even more shit to hit it.
Like....how much worse are things going to get before they get better?
That's the part that scares me.
How much worse can/will things get?
:scared:

9. When we lose 13 million jobs total then we should be about done. |
|
According to what I've read there are about 10 million illegal adults working in this country and about 3 million H1B Visa workers in this country. Supposedly doing jobs they CAN'T find a citizen to do. This would mean we have more jobs than citizens to do them. (ya right) So if we lose 13 million jobs that's about right.
Probably more. If employers would start hiring full time rather than deliberately hire only part time to avoid having to offer bennies then we'll need to lose even more jobs - the new full timers would be doing 2 part time jobs.

10. the question itself suggests that Obama needs to get radical, and soon . . . |
|
making nice with Republicans and their corporations, massive bailout bills, continuing the war in Afghanistan (and, for now anyhow, Iraq), etc. will not solve the problem(s) . . .
the president needs to get firmly behind some MAJOR policy changes (e.g. a universal, single payer healthcare system, an alternative energy "Manhattan Project," commercialization of marijuana, etc.) if we are to have any hope at all of forestalling economic and environmental disaster . . .
time's a wastin' . . .

11. I've heard projections of 10.5% to 12.0% unemployed by the end of 2009 |
|
...so that means as of the end of Dec 2008, 8,924,000 Americans were unemployed for an unemployment rate of 7.2% of the labor force a rise of 1,846,000 more workers out of work from the end of 2007 which had 7,078,000 unemployed.
Potentially the ranks of unemployed workers could rise to between 12,493,600 and 14,278,400 unemployed or higher by the end of 2009 if republicans have their way.
Stop the wasteful bank bailouts, implement Obama's stimulus package now as Phase 1 and begin an aggressive rebuilding of vital long term infrastructure investments which will put people back to work in productive jobs and restore the U.S. economy.

17. not just any shit either. Elephant shit |
|
and unemployment is ALREADY double digit, they just keep tweaking the formula in hopes all those unemployed people won't notice.
Recent job fair in Tucson: 40-50 employers showed up, along with several thousand job seekers. That would be just the tip of that one city's iceberg.
