We don't get the cloture vote tonight. Is it really in the bag? |

OK, people think it's in the bag.
Is it?
Reid gave away the store today to get to make his announcement, along with a few speeches by Snowe, Collins, Specter & co., meaning that if the Senate held the cloture vote tonight for the stimulus bill, it would pass.
But it's probably not gonna happen until Monday.
How much do you want to bet that something will happen that will get somebody's panties (or diapers) in a bunch, and this whole deal will fall apart, meaning the Rethugs will be demanding even more concessions, and hold up the bill another week?
It's happened before - I'm trying to remember which bill - Reid announced he had a deal on Friday, then something happened over the weekend, the Rethugs reacted in fake poutrage and it all fell apart.

I'm not holding my breath - good old Harry managed to look the opposition right in the eye and piss his pants. Now to top things off - he's handed the weekend news cycle to the republicans to score a few more points before they extract the rest of the infrastructure spending from the bill before allowing it to pass. With leaders like this who needs an opposition party?

7. I wonder if Obama has some strings he can pull to coerce Reid into leaving. |
|
At least get Reid to the back bench - get him out of that Majority Leader position - he's worse than useless there!
If we're lucky, Obama will keep the drumbeat going over the weekend, the Rethugs won't find something to "get offended" about, Pelosi will push the House into putting at least a few of the things that were chopped back in, and we'll have a half-assed stimulus bill that will have the virtue of being slightly better than no stimulus.
If we aren't lucky, the Rethugs will freak out over some perceived issue of protocol, Snowe and Collins will withdraw their support, and we'll all be fucked.

if they are going to totally fuck it up, screw it!! start over! this is to fucking important NOT to do right! Biden said “If we do everything right, if we do it with absolute certainty, there’s still a 30% chance we’re going to get it wrong,” so what are the chances they will be wrong if they do this half assed!!! this is a fucking disaster!! I hope they have a plan B, looks like they will need it!!
