Reid: Finish stimulus or no recess
Reid: Finish stimulus or no recess

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told colleagues on Monday that they would miss the Presidents Day recess if they did not finish work on the economic stimulus package by the end of this week.

“We’re not going to leave for our Presidents Day recess until we complete this,” said Reid, speaking on the Senate floor.

“We have things to do in our home states,” Reid continued. “We plan and hope all next week to be home so we can be doing the things we can’t be doing on weekends, but if we can’t complete this legislation we’ll have to cut into that and our responsibilities will have to be set for some other day.”

Reid said he saw no reason why Senate and House negotiators could not reach final agreement on a package that could pass both chambers by Friday.

1. "We’re not going to leave for our Presidents Day recess until we complete this"
Bullshit!

Harry has given these ultimatums many times, and in the end, the same predictable thing happens; he caves.

If the Republicans want to leave for recess, Harry will make sure he rolls out the red carpet for them when push comes to shove.

8. He'll be out there...
Holding the doors for their limos and town cars and wishing them a hearty bon voyage.

Poor Harry Reid. A Man for No Seasons.

9. Harry Reid has got that door mat thing down good!
He lays down for Republicans better than most.

Yep, we've got a real winner there in old Harry! Heck of a job, Harry, heck of a job! :eyes:

3. Could the problem with Harry be that he's afraid the Republicans might try
to get him out of the Senate Majority Leader gig? Maybe this could be a glass half full situation.

10. I guess we know how things will probably go
Work on the stimulus will not be finished by the end of the week and there will be a Presidents Day recess. Nobody actually takes Reid's ultimatums seriously.
