Are they calling it another set back for Obama? or are they calling Gregg out?

1. They are calling it a setback for Obama, and totally ignoring that Gregg's aide
was just caught in the Abramhoff scandal.

2. You didn't miss a thing......
Just watch the news in the days to come. It's not about Obama, but I think it's gonna be about Gregg (and Abramoff).

4. Obama gave a speech tonight honoring Lincoln that was awesome.
I hope you watch it.

As for Gregg, depends on your pov. Here's the statement from Obama:

Statement from the White House:

"Senator Gregg reached out to the President and offered his name for Secretary of Commerce. He was very clear throughout the interviewing process that despite past disagreements about policies, he would support, embrace, and move forward with the President's agenda. Once it became clear after his nomination that Senator Gregg was not going to be supporting some of President Obama's key economic priorities, it became necessary for Senator Gregg and the Obama administration to part ways. We regret that he has had a change of heart".

Gregg wanted the job, then he didn't. I don't quite understand why this is Obama's fault.

5. Check out Countdown
KO calls it. He basically calls Gregg a quitter and brings up his very right-wing take on the Census. I ignore the rest of the corporate morons who dress up and play reporter on the tee-vee. They will spin everything according to RNC talking points.

6. Gregg looks like an idiot, the Republicans look vengeful and Obama looks like a gentleman
but he may not have had his team do enough teamwork in ironing out possible conflicts with Gregg before they got engaged.

9. Olbermann/Fineman seemed to call it as sour grapes for Gregg...
Upon learning that he wouldn't be permitted to literally count latinos out of the next census.

11. Actually Gregg's been exposed as the flip-flopper in a bad way. He asked to be considered,
saw he wouldn't get to work on census, backtracked on support for the stimulus package, and dropped out.

Why would the Census matter? Because then he could possibly come up with census results favorable to the GOP in possible redistricting so that they could win some House seats back.

16. I think so too. I do think on this nomination, team Obama dropped the ball..
I'm all for bi partisanship when it's feasible. This was not feasible. Even gregg said there was no serious vetting.

I almost said "silver bullet" is in what comes from gregg being nominated and taking his name out.

We're gonna see.

22. It was the Census issue, all right. He wanted to be a GOP plant in redistricting foundation.
The GOP think way ahead on this kind of stuff. That's how they get the redistricting done to suit them, or least have in the last 20 years.

Anyway, when I found out the Gregg was anti-Hispanic immigration, and then that the Census responsibility was moved out of Commerce, I connected the dots.

His intentions were evil. He didn't want Hispanics to gain any more political clout. He wanted to continue marginalizing them.

Buh-bye, Gregg!

13. Gregg is being portrayed correctly as a flip-flopper.
He initiated contact with the administration, asked for the job, then pulled out because of political pressure from the the right. Most of the cable discussions I've seen have been talking about an all-out Republican war on Obama. And then the President calmly blew the roof off with that magnificent speech in Springfield tonight.

14. They all used the phrase "A blow to the Administration".......
But they can't seem to figure out why.

How, Exactly, Is Gregg "A Blow" to President Obama?

15. Howard Fineman said on Countdown, that Team Obama removed
the census from Commerce after pressure from Latino groups who didn't like gregg's anti immigrants stance. This is what triggered gregg's change of heart. Sounds reasonable to me.
